The QL550 4x4 Recon AFV was officially revealed in 2006 targeting both export and domestic markets. However, it has dropped off the radar with only limited examples tested by the PLA. Fast forward to 2017, it is reported that the PLA is giving it another try, this time in Tibet (

) for high altitude operations.

:

The QL550 might have weak armor protection but it packs a heavy punch with its Type99 30mm gun + HJ73 turret. With a V6 water-cooled diesel engine, it can reach a maximum speed 130 km/h. It has a crew of four and weighting in around a ton and half. Furthermore, it has a data bus that can keep track all systems on-board.

Here are some older QL550 pics

Probably doesn't require heavy armor since India doesn't operate light-weight tanks at Doklam's altitude.

The Chinese Air Force and a brigade from the Tibet Military Region conducted a joint exercise at 4,200 meters above sea level.

From Henri K blog Gonggar now have permanent regiment?

The photos show that the Chinese Air Force deployed the J-10C (or B) fighter, the IL-76MD and also Y-20 transport aircraft, as well as the AWACS KJ-500 at the airport. of Lhassa-Gonggar in Tibet. It seems to be unpublished for the Y-20 at least, to be confirmed.

The pressure is maintained in Tibet, here Lhassa-Gonggar airport at 12 Oct with at least 18 J-11A fighters (98th Brigade?) And 2 new AWACS KJ-500. In another Chinese airport in Tibet, Shigatsé-Heping, the 3 ELINT EA-03 drones were still there at the same time.

Well that what Henri K said He probably get it from Chinese forum or TV news. Gonggar has no residence regiment before. But it might change now Anyway This aerostat will definitely keep an eye on movement across the border

The Institute 38 of the Chinese group CETC is testing a radar mounted on an aerostat in Tibet, in the city of Nyingchi bordering the Sino-Indian border.

A generally good idea, but didn't a blimp just crash in the UK? I think the weather conditions in the hamalayans would be unstable. They will have plenty of challenges ahead. Maybe it'll be a summer only thing, don't think anyone is stupid enough to start things in the winter.

OT
The airship lost contact with its landing mast and therefore cut its hull and let the Helium escape. No one was on board.
