hmmmm....Food!!!! What we like to eat!

Re: Whats your Favourite Asian Food?

Mine has to be fried rice, with prawns, ham, egg. Perfecto.

I make that minus the prawn and with ketchup, spicy peppers, and green onions (scallions) thrown for breakfast... every morning haha. Easy, quick, yet delicious.

Any fans of fish? Dou Bar Yu, Dou Hua (Tofu flower) Yu, Tie Ban (Iron Board) Yu?

Re: Whats your Favourite Asian Food?

My favourite East Asian food is and will always be dumplings and noodles, even if they are not foods of my region (as my grandma always point out)

You just cant resist the juice that you get when you pop the skin of that Shandong dumpling....Hot!..MMmmmmmm

Or the bite and bounce that you get when you chew your noodle (I prefer white noodle over Southern egg noodle at that) Favourites: Udon, Soba, Lamein and pho noodles, the really springy ones that are clear. I always have either ShanDong Lamein or pho on hand.

I remember having this drink for dessert at a Korean restaurant, basically toasted rice in sugar water. That was really good.

Don't know much South Asian dishes but Biryani and Garam Masala is good.
West Asia: Hummus = Love <3

PS. How many varieties of (East?)Asian beef noodles are there? I can think of 4: pho, Lanzhou, Taiwan, and Sichuan. I am guessing Taiwan beef noodle is what Kilu0 talks of, with preserved vegetables, a dark broth, and calf muscle meat, is that right?

PPS. Arent most Lanzhou Hui Chinese actually Han who got converted?

------
What kind of fishes are those, Friedrice? Ironboards don't swim =P.
I like my flounder steamed or deep fried whole and my salmon strips and catfish steamed in black bean sauce.
I don't get the taste of ruan yu(my mandarin might be wrong here, but in cantonese it is rAHn yu, a fresh water fish very popular in Guangdong but not sold in SF.) so I stick to stripped bass since they have less bones.
Sturgeon in porridge is SOO good.

I don't eat Mackeral until it was smoked which isn't Asian.

Re: Whats your Favourite Asian Food?

There's a Sichuan restaurant in my town that's very good, and they clean up each year by winning all the local awards for "Chinese Restaurants". I'm used to Cantonese, of course (there used to be a real jewel of a Cantonese restaurant in town - wasn't fancy, but it was very good), and I still find Sichuan a little strange (and hot, obviously) in some ways. If it weren't for the Tsingtao that they have there, it could get a little rough getting through lunch or dinner. Kind of ironic, it really takes a beer (actually, a few) from northeast China to set off the spiciness of food from the southwest at this restaurant.

Re: Whats your Favourite Asian Food?

lengmian(冷面)isn't that just a copy of the Chinese/Taiwanese (probably originated from either) liangmian 涼麵.

I agree, hot pots are good. Especially during winter, and you go to those 300NTD All you can eat hot pot places! XD
I remember during my last trip to Taiwan, there was a shop in Taipei owned by 台糖 (Taiwan Sugar), its a hot pot restaurant and they have all the same stuff there except they have speciallised hot pot soup bases made by Taiwan Sugar, it comes in various flavours and tastes really good. It is once again all you can eat. XD

You mean like Jiu Niang? Sweet rice wine? I'd prefer some yogurt soju if it was at a Korean restaurant haha.

Re: Whats your Favourite Asian Food?

I'm rather eclectic, from pan fried noodles to dumplings, but anything on a dimsum cart and steamed/Fried pork buns really appeal to me. :)

Ah...a fellow dimsim lover. I like the cantonese or Hong Kong styled chou (港式粥), tastes quite good.
