HJ-8 ATGM in Syria

As of now the rebels are being owned by Assads forces

Now Asssad actually has a stratedgy, Iran is in the game and they know how to move how to hide and take the initiative

Iranian drones are flying over Damascus and guiding artillery, they are using them for surveillance

That's why Iranian embassy was bombed just a few days ago in Beirut because rebels are getting desperate and just a few minutes ago Shia backed by Iran just launched a mortor attack from South Iraq into Saudi Arabia they landed in a desert no damage done but it's a message to Saudi

Iran has many strings it can pull all over the middleast

Some times you win and some times you lose...

Rebels in Syria seized a key town Friday in Qalamoun province that has been under army control since the outbreak of the conflict, a monitoring group and the opposition said.

Hundreds of rebels now control most of Deir Attiyeh, with the exception of the Bassel hospital and a small hill, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The majority Christian town north of Damascus is home to 10,000 people and is situated on the strategic route linking the capital to Homs in central Syria.

It was seized by the jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and al-Nusra Front, as well as other Islamist fighters, said the Observatory, which relies on a network of activists, doctors and lawyers on the ground for its reports.

Did it miss or hit I think it hit hard to tell because the tank moves behind the wall towards the end the missile might have just clipped it in the end by looking at the blast

Yeah a second look confirms that

We see now how effective the Assad tank crews are, they use flanking, staging areas and fall back

Now they no longer just charge around like idiots a tank company usually has a lead and a rear, they dont travel all at the same time when entering a combat zone the rear tank always stops and holds gaurd while the lead tank pushes on

Also now they are using tanks and infantry integrated togther like a proper mechanised unit, tanks clear the way while infantry does the deep cleaning

Also Assad forces now achieve fire supremacy early in the fight, that's laying down lots of smack and making the rebels just to duck then sending in infantry to finish the job

This is why rebels are losing big time, Assad has learnt the lessons of war he's army is doing quite well

However I don't doubt that in a open desert warfare no Arab army barring Egypt can seriously and properly deploy tanks to win a war they just don't know how tank warfare works, in Syria it's urban warfare mainly which is tank vs rebels who have no tanks

To use tanks in the open you need artillery support and combat helicopters, you need mobility firepower and flexibility

If you want to know anything about mechanised warfare then there's nothing better than learning from the Master himself, Field Marshall Erwin Rommel and his book called "Rommel and his art of war"

Over 70 years ago successfully integrated the use of artillery and amour, or should I say he mastered the art

I remember I saw a TV show on Discovery Channel about tank defensive system. OK, I found it on Youtube. If Assad deploy this on his T72s, what happen?

Never ever ever in a million years. Trophy is Israeli. Assad would sooner turn in his family jewels then buy from Isreal and Israel would never sell to him. The Russian Arena system is more likely buy for him.

Now just to understand the concept. If one of these HJ8 were fired at a Israeli Merkiva tank with Trophy here is what would happen. Millimeter wavelength radars mounted on the hull would detect the missile, that data would be run though a computer which would calculate the best point of interception and speed. Then fire a explosive device at the inbound missile. The device would impact the HJ8 and blow it away safely before impact with the tank. The tank crew would be informed of the event and the computer would also give a firing solution onto the point of origin.

For a T72 with Arena the situation changes a little. The rebles line up the HJ8 and let'er rip. Once again millimeter wavelength radar systems in the hull sense the threat and calculate. They then fire a shaped charge block which explodes showering the missile with frag. Shredding it.
