Nah I have a hunch that they did that on purpose (and not only because they lacked imagination). Of course, this only adds to the "China copies" narrative so in a sense AVIC is shooting itself in the foot.

Given the history of how good (or rather how bad) Chinese arms and aerospace promotion CGIs at arms shows etc are and how bad features on CCTV about PLA developments are, I think it's much more a case of trying to be "cool" and failing.

Of course, this doesn't take away from the fact that this is official confirmation that a big flying wing aircraft is in the works at XAC, as someone at high level would've officially sanctioned the video maker to have included that last scene inside... but it doesn't take away from how it's in eyerollingly bad taste.

The ad is so very obviously aping the NG ad. But it is different on subtle details. Floor is different. Aircraft shape is slightly different. Background lighting as well. They may want to reinforce the China can only copy line of thinking, but this is an ad meant for the domestic Chinese audience.

Rumor coming a source at AviationWeek. We'll know for sure by tomorrow.

Can't imagine what it could be. How else can a stealth bomber be revolutionised. It probably uses conventional engines, albeit better than previous generations. It's not going to be some anti-gravity, transforming, AI piloted super B2. If they say it's a big detail to be revealed, it will probably be some cloaking ability like they've hinted in another NG ad where we only see the shadow of the aircraft. But then again they could have just been reluctant to reveal its actual look and simply hid it from direct view like the tarp ad.

Such promo videos are seldom carefully planned or devised in a way that minute details are to convey very specific messages. What's most likely is this:
AVIC: we need a promo video. Lets hire studio X to make it.
Studio X: what would you like to show in the video?
AVIC: oh you know, the usual. history of our products. make it flashy
Studio X: cool, we can do something like this (shows some portfolio video) that will cost you a million bucks.
AVIC: Whoa. What can we get for one tenth of that price?
Studio X: Umm, we could do it like this (shows some 2007 video that they did)
AVIC: Yeah, that's fine.
Studio X: so here's the storyboard, we've got all these planes...
AVIC: That's nice. Oh, and you could you ad some reference to our new bomber plane at the end?
Studio X: Sure, just send us some images of it.
AVIC: Oh, we can't do that. It's all a secret. Just make it vague, not really visible.
STudio X: like a plane under a tarp?
AVIC: Yeah, Yeah, that'll work.
Studio X intern: well, i googled a bit and rumor is H-X bomber is a flying wing.
Studio X: fine, just make something real quick. We're not being paid to be creative.
Studio X artist: Hm, maybe if i just use this NG ad as a template...
AVIC: Oh, we love it. Very cool video. (have no idea NG ad was lifted)

There's a lot of ways the ad could have emerged, but I think one thing about your passage I disagree with, is I think AVIC or XAC would've given the studio/video developers a nod that their next generation plane was a flying wing rather than just an "aircraft".

I agree that XAC or AVIC themselves probably didn't intend to deliberately to ape the NG ad, but someone in the process were definitely a fan of it.

Oh, absolutely. It is quite plausible avic gave some vague instructions. Like "show a b2-like plane in shadows, without details". If avic did know about Ng ad and still was okay with this ad, then that would be worrisome. Creative wise.
