Regarding that bkack model and so far all our asumptions that this might be from SAC it makes perfectly sense if 601/SAC lost this project - as such the black model shown was the losing contender - and the new design was forwarded to 603/XAC.

There are precisely 2 persons on this board who are in a position to dispute Fat Pu's claims when it comes to Chinese military affairs - franco-russe on TOE and Deino on aviation (in particular aviation history). Nobody else comes close, not even tph. And he's especially good at Sino-Russian deals. His book - Sunset over Komsomolsk, hilariously supposed to be written by a Russian (which no Russian will ever believe) is pretty much the definitive work on the Su-27 deal this side of a full declassification on both sides in however long time.

If he mentions something, I am inclined to believe there is some substance to it.

However, he has been known to be very disingenuous when it comes to being economic with the truth.

Pupu's one of those people who I tend to believe, but never literally. For example, Pupu never said (if memory serves me correctly) that the Su-35 deal was going to happen, just that it was under way/being discussed. He's a smart man who knows how to give things without giving them away. It's probably what's kept him around to provide the leaks that he does.

Some big shrimps on Chinese bbs are known to play with words to maintain a facade of 'shrimpiness'.
Does he mean the thing in the photo doesn't exist or just the H18 designation ?
I certainly don't know who came up with H18. That thing is more likely a JH-XX & being a stealthy design, it'll more likely be JH-20 or higher.
SAC & XAC will likely work very closely on this given their experiences on the J & H parts respectively.
There're plenty of good talks of such a project from Chinese sources over the years so I'd be more surprised if it's not real.
Huitong at least knows what is real/fake.

You don't need insider info for these. With their experiences with J20/21, 2 air dominance designs, why wouldn't China do a stealth fighter-bomber ? Does anyone really think PLA will be satisfied 6 years from now still producing JH7, H6, J16 as their aerial strike force. Those 3 certainly can't take where China wants to be in the western Pacific in 10 years.

Speaking of the JH-20... These popped up last night from the same guy who seemed to get the black model right. Looks similar to the F-16XL. This would be interesting if this were real.

Dang...he drew a whole squadron of them. Hehehe.

Every concievable weapons loadout possible I suppose.

There is no doubt that the PRC PLAAF designers and planners are working on next generations fightrs and strike aircraft...and bombers. it will be very interesting to see what actually comes out of all of this.

As it is, seeing the J-20 go operational and into serial production will be a huge day for the PLAAF.

What he could also be saying here is that there is a higher priority and more advanced bomber (H-20?) that's in development by XAC. H-18 could exist and just not be as advanced.

Although PLAAF does have limited resource, so whether or not it can fully fund both H-18 and H-20 along with all the other projects is hard to say.

The general consensus on Chinese forums right now is that this was a ploy concocted by CJDBY moderation to draw in visitors. Looks like we've all been duped. I am going to close the thread in two days if we don't have more development.
