Am I mistaken, or do all the pictures of the Type 054 A NOT show the YJ-83 missile launchers? They all show that area empty, just like the 052C. Is it possible that area is reserved for the YJ-62 just like 052C?

From what I can see, only the 2 earlier hulls of Type 054 have the YJ-83, just like they have the older SAM and CIWS. It would make sense that the brand new frigate uses the brand new YJ-62 cruise missiles.

Re: Type 054 FFG status

Seeing the HQ-7 autoloader used on the 51b Luhai, and the bare space behind the launcher on the 54s. is there any chance that they may have an automatic reloader? Does anyone also have the speed of the reload speed on the 51b?

If china were to deploy an autoloader, the 54s could be fine with out vls all together. The close range HQ-7 would combine well with the Middle ranged HQ-9 or the S-300F

The HQ-7 launchers on the 051B, 054 and 52 are all backed with automatic reloaders. That enables them to carry as many as 24 (054) to 32 missiles (051B, 52).

there definately are pics of the Type-054A with the YJ-83, and all have mounts exactly matching YJ-83 not YJ-62. Would be nice to see YJ-62 but there's no sign of that.

well, here are some of the latest pictures, the first one should answer your questions.

And no, I don't really see the point of anything other than YJ-83 on 054A. The launcher on 052C seems to be getting used for LACMs from those latest pictures with the green tubes. DH-10 with 1500+ KM range seems a lot more powerful than the YJ-62s.

^ How come there's very little info on the DH-10 (or HN series, if they're not the same thing)? Even sinodefence has nothing on it.

Almost all information about DH/HN series cruise missiles is derived from a couple of Jane's articles and several Kanwa ´recycling efforts´of these pieces.
(...may be Dongfeng is simply not convinced by these sources.:D)

Obviously the entire CM complex is highly classified since PLA does not want to attract any attention to her new high precision long range strike capability:D. (Indeed ´Pinkov´has speculated recently in Kanwa that PLA has already achieved with the combination of H-6K and DH-10 a tactical nuclear precision strike capability against targets throughout E/SE Asia.)
Of course PLA is highly intent to keep this kind of ´surprise´tightly under wraps... :coffee:

but then there is the pic fo H6 with missiles look like Kh101, did anyone ever compared the size of those missiles on H6 and the size of canisters on 052C?? may be that green canister carried the missile on H6?

What kind of ships are these 054/054A frigates intended to replace?
They possess similar anti-surface firepower compared to the old 051s, while the AAW capabilities are significantly upgraded. This makes me wonder if these ships are the replacements. Afterall, the PLAN has just withdrawn the 105 and 106 from service within the last couple of months, which coincided with the latest 054A entering service.
