nice, we finally have some photos of the current progress of the 2nd 054A in HD. Looks like it's going to launched pretty soon too.

Hmmm...interesting development on the 525. Also, is it clear that soon there will be four 054As and if I am not way off base, it looks like the third at HP is already building, meaning there will be more. Soon there will be Six 054s, and at least a seventh, if not more, building. Full blown production...and fast!

FCR=Fire Control Radar

HD = Hudong Shipyard, Shanghai (one of the shipyards building the Type 054A FFGs)

HP = Huangpu Shipyard, Guangzhou (the other shipyard building the Type 054A FFGs)

yeah, it seems like the building capacity at HD is especially impressive. The second 054A only started the assemble process when the first one was launched. And just 1 month and half later, it's already almost ready for launch. And I think it's only only delayed because of Chinese New Years. Seems like the time from laid down to launched is going to be less than 6 months for that one. That's quite fast, especially think they are also working on the 2 launched ships + F-22P at the same time. By my estimation, we are basically going to see about 4 054A launched in a span of 5 months.

Just a thought, but maybe the switch to the AK-176 main gun, and VLS is in part to offset the topweight of the new radar and Type-730s?

do you mean 525 (054)? yes, i think it might be one of the reason. but there must be some other reasons for such a major modification.

My guess probably an improved HH-7.

I believed the original design for the 54a was for it to be fitted with vls. From the stepped shape it looks like it was intended to be fitted with maybe a cyclinder or 2
