re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

The largest weapon the F-35 is slated to carry is the Storm Shadow cruise missle at around 2866 lbs, I believe it may carry two, but that is just conjecture on my part as I was unable to find a reference to that. I believe the max payload is 8200 lbs and have to place a question mark there as well since this is anecdotal info. I am sure one of our more technically aware posters will update this with more definitive info, as well I am thinking two 2000 lbs J-DAMs? Sorry, but this will motivate the bright lads and spur them to action.

A little further study indicates that the max load out internally and externally is 18,000 lbs as there are three pylons on each wing. No word on whether the F-35 will be upgraded to carry the 5,000 lb bomb, but that would likely be on the center pylon as well. AFB

Guys, does anyone know whether or not the Lightning II will carry one Storm Shadow or two?

re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

An article is published today in my Dutch center right newspaper saying that the Dutch ministry of defense is in trouble because there will be only money to buy 56 F-35's, which is not enough for its hoped for expeditions against countries in Asia or Africa. And that is assuming that nothing drastic happens with the economy and the currency. On the other hand they don't want to leave the program as was asked by a parliamentary motion a few months ago.

Well they just got to buy what they can for now. Hopefully with full mass production the F-35 prices can be reduce at a later time.

They can only buy 56 of them if full mass production leads to sufficiently lower prices. Otherwise it will be even less, perhaps to few to be useful. Gripen anyone?

Well if the electronics and countermeasures on the F-35 are anything close to being as capable as claimed, even a few will be most helpfull, and hopefully with regime change here in November, the world economy will follow suit and the name of the game will be rebound! Can't wait for Bro BHO to return to Chitown permanently!

With an anticipated long production run (probably running into a decade or longer), the Dutch could place a top up order in a few years afterwords.

re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

well im not going to get into UK deals regarding F35 but looks like the final tally will be finalised after the defence review in 2015

i think we might not get the 138 planned, also UK gave US Harrier technology to help develop F35 in addition to the sale of our own Harriers at knock down price to US Marines

now they are saying they want to replace Typhoons with F35??? total scam!

That ain't gonna happen and it is a total scam, folks talking just to hear their lips flap. Anyway, I still think the F-35C might operate well off the ramp, and it wouldn't surprise me to see, USN and the Royal Navy co-op on getting the F-35C carrier qualled on the QE, now I know someone will tell me I'm wrong, am I?
