Thanks for posting ... but look at these evil Japanese fighter, it carries a missile under it wings !
What and unilateral act of aggression ??? ;);)

If I'm not completely wrong, so or similar was the Japanese outcry about the J-11A that intercepted the Japanese planes.

Deino

PS: By the way that missile is - at least for me on an operational F-15J - the latest AAM-5 short range AAM.

The story is also being covered by the Wall Street Journal's "China Real Time".

Why do we care if the fighters have missiles or not? it is not more threatening... I am sure the guns are loaded... and there isn't much a patrol aircraft can do to evade the guns of a 9G capable fighter.

It's a gesture.

Carrying missiles is less about actually firing them but to display a gesture, an attitude, and determination.

Like I said earlier.

These types of intercepts are common place in overlapping zones where the two sides have mistrust of one another.

That F-15 is not in a "dangerous" intercept position, no more than the Chinese aircraft were earlier.

The press is making a much larger issue out of this than it should be IMHO.

Agree.

What's new however is that we see videos released from the Chinese side which I'm really happy about.

From that video, what is the distance between the two aircraft? Is it 30 - 50 m? More?

Military aircrafts buzzing each other are common during and after the Cold War, and all sides do it. Japan is more experienced at managing the Western Press, and it knows the first one out with a credible narrative has the upper hand in getting its story across. That's why Japanese officials cry first and loudest, even though their own side do essentially the same things.
