Discussing long term impacts of Ukraine crisis

It's enough to look at a map covering the US and North America. Does China military bases surround the US? What about Chinese allies surrounding the US? Now look at a map on China and its vicinity and ask the same question.

and what point are you making exactly? I don’t see any NATO tanks in Russia. No fly zones in Ukraine.

We can also talk about the US war games where the US seems to lose against China.

It's clear which country has the upper hand and its silly to pretend otherwise.

Is that why you guys are begging Venezuela and Iran for oil? Who are you going to beg for manufactured goods?

For someone who talks big. The US is quite dependent on a lot of foreign goods. With the pandemic, shortages, rising cost and Biden presidency. It’s highly doubtful any of these issues were resolved.

The report says China is the only producer of various chemicals needed in missiles and bombs, Japan and European nations are the only suppliers of certain carbon fibers used in missiles, satellites, and space rockets; Germany is the prime supplier of special vacuum tubes for night vision goggles, it says.

"The Americans are a paper tiger."

That is a Chairman Mao quotation.

The Americans probably have even more bases and more lethal weaponry near Ukraine!

I've been hearing for quite some years that the US is "pivoting to Asia".

If that is in fact their intention, it seems to me that forcing a Ukraine inside Nato down Russia's throat is something absolutely insane.

Having to go hat in hand to beg Venezuela and Iran to increase their production of oil is proof of their hipocrisy, their stupidity and desperation.

All their actions are tightening the friendship of Russia and China glueing them one to the other with superglue.

The funny thing is that their actions clearly showed they WANTED war and that they DO NOT WANT to stop war.

Futhermore, they have put India in a very awkward position. So much so for their QUAD pal!

For someone who wanted to "pivot to Asia", it seems to me they have been doing immensely stupid things.

It also seems that all of their actions are being taken by the emotions of the minute. This is not something they have planned and analyzed long term, or even mid term consequences.

The price the world will pay for the sacrossant dogma that NATO has an open door policy is going to immense.

So much for belonging to NATO.

This is exactly what Professor Mearsheimer has been saying for years. But it doesn't take a great expert to see it.

It is a clear demonstration of something that many refuse to see and accept: the colossal and deadly American military empire is an irrational Beast that is driven by its rages, passions, emotions, delusions and fantasies.

It was originally Obama Policy until Trump came along with a sledgehammer. Now Biden picking up the scraps from his VP era.

That's what strategists like Meirsheimer have been saying for years. America's fundamental strength and weakness are one and the same: it's an Empire. It cannot ignore any region too much. Asia is the most important area of the world now but letting Europe take a backseat would allow Russia to make gains in the east. Germany could also pursue a more independent foreign policy which wouldn't be so slavish to US diktat, which is a risk if you're the hegemon.

That's the central dilemma confronting Washington.

Given Exxon/Shell & BP have left Russia, but the Japanese & Total are still there, when do you think CNPC/CNOOC/Sinopec will start picking up the scraps in Sakhalin? Makes good economics with the shorter voyage to the east Asia (Japan & SK included as end customers), and the presence of Total & the Japanese makes good cover.
