Now if Biden wins (as he's likely to), how would that change the potential impact of Xi serving a third term? It would be less of a problem if Trump wins as Trump would provide a cover by getting all the hate. Xi almost have to serve a third term as all members of Politburo Standing Committee are of his generation.
While there's definitely a large amount of politicking involved in getting term limits removed, I'd like to think the meritocracy system on which the CCP operates on is what keeps Xi in power. The west sees it as autocratic oppression, but the people of China and the party see Xi as a legitimate leader with a proven track record. The country and the party will rally behind Xi, much like how it did with Deng and (to a certain) Mao.

If we are to draw parallels to western democracy - Merkel's been Chancellor and Netanyahu's been Prime Minister for over a decade now. I can't see how Biden's win would affect Xi.

I'm not sure. The removal of term limits made a lot of people anxious. On the other hand, a lot of apolitical Chinese probably don't even know the term limits were removed. What would their reactions be if a leadership change didn't happen as they had expected? If Trump is still in power and are very hostile to China it could be explained as an emergency measure. If Biden isn't overly hostile to China then how is Xi going to justify his third term to the public? This is not a democracy vs autocracy issue. People can see Xi's 10 years of rule as legitimate and indeed good but still think it's unjustified to stay on for another 5 years.

So far Biden leads 2.3% in popular vote while CA counted only 74% of the votes and NY 84%. By the time these two states finishing counting, Biden's lead in popular vote will probably increase to more than 5%. If Biden then loses the election because of the U.S.' electoral college voting method, the U.S. "democracy" will be the laughingstock of the rest of world.

We have a saying in Chinese, 关你屁事. Translation - mind your own bees wax.

Much like how the Russians want to keep Putin around, the people of China want Xi.
