If Biden wins, i think he will be more aggressive towards russia than China, democrats have an axe to grind against russia (due election interference etc) they still seems to think that there was no way hillary would have lost if not because of putin
Which in turns will make russia even more aligned to China, which is great news having russia as an ally will help to neutralize the asian nato forming against China

The election interference is a lie concocted by the US Democrat Party establishment to excuse their failures and antagonize Russia some more. I wonder if the Neocon/Neolib US political regime has a death wish with their continued provocations and acts of aggression against China and Russia. The so called "democrats" (really imperialist neo-liberals) do not like that Russia does not bend the knee to US interests and US orders. They do not like that Russia is not another US vassal yet.

Hi hashtagpls,

It's natural to get angry, what the American had done is truly despicable and underhanded. They wanted you to act their way to justified their action, why give them the satisfaction. The Confucian way is to see a person develop itself and act for the collective good. From what I've read, the goal is to achieve a Comprehensive National Power, it follow the thinking of SUN TZU, If you had reach a stage were you had achieved an overwhelming advantage, you don't need to fight to secure your objective. The philosophy of CHI , It's like water my friend, either you drown if you resist or survive by going with the flow.
Now that you mention it, that guiding principle does seem to produce dividends in Chinese historical relations.

After all, justified Chinese responses to US actions eg expelling journalists simply resulted in Murdoch and western MSM simply twisting reality and the truth to produce a distorted picture to the western and worldwide public. You are correct, actors like Pompeo/Navarro et al want China to respond with tit for tat because it will simply galvanise support for the new cold war which they are instigating, especially from the currently reluctant US semiconductors and tech companies like Apple, Microsoft and CISCO (even whilst they encourage Trump's war on Chinese contenders like Huawei and DJI).

What i'm seeing in China's strategy in response to these actions is the policy of 'dual circulation' which will ensure that the Chinese consumer market replaces the US consumer market as being the most profitable in the world-which i would hope would encourage corrective behaviour in current and future US policymakers.

On a strictly cathartic level, i do hope Chinese private military companies ie "unofficial" Chinese SpecOps give certain US/Australian, Five Eyes figures a bit of the 'death squad' treatment.

Hi hastagpls,

A famous quote from Napoleon Bonaparte "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake". America is lashing out, its behavior is seen as hegemonic and temper tantrum if she can't get her way by other countries, a sign of a declining power.

Except China lacks the PR power to convince the world of that message. Again why PR and soft power matters.

Actions speak louder than words - we'll let our track record of lifting millions out of poverty do the talking while our neighbors line up to do the same via the Belt and Road Initiative.

You don't need to gain power by bombing countries into the stoneage while thumping your chest getting the world to call you daddy. To build on @ansy1968's point - we're not going to stop the Americans from overspending on their defense budget either, when those funds could be put to better use improving the American way of life, especially amidst a global pandemic.

Hi crash8pilot,

You said it perfectly, they need to prioritize every dollar they spend. If you are an American citizen, just lost your job, cant pay your rent and sick with a virus, you seek assistance from your gov't, instead they argue a lot about the morality of socialism and see your politician spending your hard earn money on subsidized the rich and a further military expansion. What will you do? will your vote changes anything? were will your next meal will come from? All this question create an antipathy feeling among the public which create a toxic political and social atmosphere. I really hope the American can find a solution, they had strong public institution and they had done it before in their recent history.

The only thing China should be concerned about is independence from the West regardless if Biden or Trump wins. What's frustrating the US is their lack of options to stop China. Contrary to what the propagandist say the US tech ban is a desperate move on the US's part because they have no direct means to stop China that won't cost them severely at the same time. Remember the good ole days when the US said how competition is great? They said it spurs innovation. That's because there was no real competition then. That was a ploy to get other countries to open their markets to the US. But then look how paranoid they got when the Japanese were dominant in 80s. And that was their ally... And now the rise of China threatens their power more than the Japanese ever did and now all of the sudden competition ain't so important anymore. It was a lie because it was always about their dominance and now since there's real competition, they ain't so keen on how competition is good anymore since the shoe is on the other foot now.

What I see is a problem is the Asian need to be respected. That includes China. When you expect respect and then don't get it, then you get mad. When you want respect, you're giving the person you want respect from power over you. They're the ones that get to decide if they'll give you respect and the people you want respect from know it and they're less likely to give it to you because then they wouldn't have power over you. They can manipulate you to give them the things they want in exchange for their respect. So why would they give it when they can keep getting things from you because you value their respect that much? And even if they did give you respect, what does it get you. A boost to your ego and sense of stature? All in your mind. Worthless! It's just like how China's enemies peddle soft power. Soft power to them is you have to have something from your culture where "they" meaning the West will like and that's what they say is you having power. That's not power when it's someone else that gets to decide what you have is to be liked. They're the ones with the power. Beggars don't have power. They say that kind of soft power is important because people are begging to them to be liked hence why they promote it. An example they say is soft power that China lacks is how India has yoga that the West likes. How does that translate into power? Maybe because since India has something the West likes, the West is less likely to want to destroy you just for being different from them? Chinese food is the second most popular ethnic food in the US? Higher than Indian food. It's as irrelevant as yoga.

Biden or Trump means nothing for China. Independence means the West isn't important and they so much want to feel important. Is that an act of war to be independent from them? No, it's the furthest thing from it. All the more if they act on it, they're the ones that look evil to the world. They're the ones that will get mad and act irresponsibly because they think you're suppose to give something to them that they don't deserve. Just like expecting respect. Real respect and soft power is when you get it without expecting it. Providing an alternate technology source so the US has no power over it is soft power and countries will respect China for it. The US doesn't want the world to have choices so they can be in control. That's why they want people to think in black and white so they can control the narrative. If their technology is better, then people will naturally gravitate to theirs. That's what they were saying what's so great about competition. It inspires people to do better so then they can compete. They can say they're for competition... when they were the only game in town. But since now they're not, the truth comes out. What about ideas? Yeah if world believe and followed that the US was number one in handling outbreaks, everyone would be looking up to them for coronavirus and the US would be in control and they would look like they were number one because everyone else would be making the same mistakes never knowing there was a better way. All the things they say China would do and the world shouldn't follow, they're doing right now to the world. Just like they're afraid China will do in the future to them what they're doing to China right now. Wanting respect from the US or seeking the kind of soft power they say is important doesn't protect you from their hypocrisy. There's a road that China can follow where they will have little power to stop China but it's worthless if you think you need them to like you and have their respect.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Voice of America (VOA) has revealed a list of potential China policy advisors for U.S. presidential candidate Joe Biden, including many who were in the Obama administration.

In an

published Friday (Oct. 23), the Washington-based radio network pointed out that Biden's advisors on China-related policies will likely consist of former Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power, former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell, Deputy Director at the Center for a New American Security Ely Ratner, and former National Security Advisors Jake Sullivan, Susan Rice, and Thomas Donilon.

VOA said the list was based on currently known information and that almost everyone mentioned had held senior positions related to China policy during the Obama era. It said although these former officials will reevaluate the U.S.' “engagement policy” with China, they are generally against the "new cold war" and "decoupling from China" concepts encouraged by President Donald Trump.

David Firestein, president of the George H.W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations, told VOA that it is possible Biden will revisit some of Obama’s policies on China since they share many of the same advisors. He said Team Biden has a fundamentally different perception of Beijing from the Trump administration, so it is inevitable that the American strategy toward China will change if the Democratic nominee wins the November election.

Meanwhile, VOA said Biden's potential China policy advisors believe the U.S. should shift its focus from "changing China" to "enhancing its own competitiveness." It also said they are planning to repair diplomatic relations with other countries without isolating Beijing and that they believe cooperation with China on topics such as climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, and nuclear proliferation is necessary.
