Notice for dredging out an area 1200m by 300m in the 3rd production zone by Jiangnan Shipyard between 12th of March to 31st of March. Some in China believe this is a sign that 003 will be launched soon.
I do apologize beforehand since I am not well-versed in naval/shipbuilding terminology, but what does these "basins" mean? The 3rd out-fitting basin is a surprise since the present two basins are not fully utilised. This points to a new round of ship building and out-fitting frenzy anticipated by JNCX. Type 003 is definitely one of these ships, we will also see a lot of type 055, type 052(D/E?) as well as civilian ships in all 3 basins next year onwards.
The 3rd basin project may take up more than 6 months to complete. Dredging work is scheduled to be completed by 31st March, therafter, civil engineering works and moving in heavy equipment will follow. The earliest that out-fitting of a ship in this basin probably will be happened in quarter 4 of 2022.
This is an image of JNCX (Jiangnan Changxing 江南长兴)shipyard. A basin is as indicated, and it is used to out-fit a ship after it is launched from dry dock/open air yard/building hall.I do apologize beforehand since I am not well-versed in naval/shipbuilding terminology, but what does these "basins" mean?
Do they mean places to build new drydocks for ship construction?
Or basins for ships to enter deeper water immediately after launching?
It is nice to see the expansion of their commercial shipbuilding capacity, resulting in market share domination over the competition.Possible, but those container ships --- among the largest ships built in the world and dwarf 003 --- will require dredging efforts anyway.
