Maybe it is for the second 003?

If I recall correctly, Liaoning already had her turbine installed when purchased from Ukraine.

So A01 for Shandong, A02 for first 003 and now A03 for the second 003?

Just a guess.
You apparently did not follow China's CV program all these years.

Liaoning did not have power plant when bought. It was just a haul. The Ukrainian even welded the rudder fixed so it could not be steered. It's power plant (boiler and turbine) are domestic product installed in Dalian.

"A03 program" here in the photo is what we call the 003 CV, it is not the designation of a power plant in a series. A03 is 003 or the other way around.

I think you are thinking that 003 is type or class 003. Untill now no body knows for sure what 003 actually means whether it is a class or sequence number of all CVs. Personally I believe it is a sequence number. What is clear is that in all leaked information we see "program/项目", not "class, type/型".

are you refering to this?

It refers to a 25 MW reactor, but it seems to me that this is a small output compared to the russian reactors, but im not an expert on this. Does anyone here knows about this matter?
The Chinese one is actually more powerful. It is matter of designation. The reactor in question is ACP25S where 25 means 25MW electric. Usually when Chinese designate their reactor, they use the mechanic power output or electric power output if it is a electric generating power plant. The thermal output of it is 200MW. The Arktika class's reactor is 171MW thermal.

I read the original turbines, boilers and one of the two rudders were mounted, the other rudder and propellers were onboard when the ex-varyag was towed to china. The story that it lacked engines was fiction put out at the time to support the cover story that the hull would be good only for use as a amusement hull.

Also, welding studs onto hull and welding the rudder midships is a normal procedure when towing a dead hulk without working rudder machinery. the welds can be easily cut and burrs grounded smooth to restore rudder movement at a ship yard.

Care to share your source of the "original turbines and boilers"? Do you also know if the "original turbines and boilers" were refurbished to be used later or were just trash and removed in Dalian? That is the same as not having.

The "story" could be just a story, but who is the person of your source that is certainly not telling another story?

as I know, Xu Zengping, a former military basketball player and chairman of Chong Lot Limitada, told this 2015, interviewed by some media

And, in contrast to Beijing’s prior claims,

vessel came with all four engines completely intact. “Xu Zengping disclosed that the militarily sensitive original engines of the carrier were intact when Ukraine sold the vessel in 1998. This is contrary to what Beijing told the world at the time,” SCMP reported. Quoting a “source familiar with the deal,” SCMP said: “The Chinese side deliberately released false information about the removal of the engines to make it easier for Xu and the shipyard to negotiate.” A retired PLA Navy colonel told the Hong Kong newspaper that it is “very likely” that China’s carrier is still powered by Ukraine’s engines.

but remember
one of that media was Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP), reporter Minnie Chan

Two thoughts.

Xu was removed from the program early on. He was even rumored in fight with the government for "reimbursement" of his early "investment". If he was indeed doing the purchase on behalf of the government, then he must be lying to claim "reimbursement".

Secondly, together with the above he made the exposure to SCMP. That tells me how much the interview can be trusted. ZERO.

If on the other hand, he was indeed doing the job on the order of PLA, then whatever he said later could be a sanctioned lie for whatever reasons. If he run into conflict with PLA and "escaped" to the "free world" he could also be lying for his own purpose.

What I want to say is that, considering his background (like a spy) and the nature of the purchase (clandestine), one can not just trust his word, one way or the other.

That the hulk had power plants installed and one rudder shipped was consistently reported throughout the 1990s, when the ship was was in Ukrainian hands.

The USN inspected the ship in that state in the mid 1990s and reported the rest of the hulk was rusted snd dilapidated but the power plant was well prepared for long term preservation. Also reported one rudder and all 4 screws were stored onboard.

I've been following the Varyag/Liaoning story since the early 2000s and have not seen any evidence of engines being installed into the hull. I remember seeing photos around 2005/2006 of hot air exhaust from her funnel. This was also around the time the ship displayed a slight trim and deepening of her draft. There was speculation at the time that this was due to engine installation, but nothing much came of that in the end.

Like @Richard Santos said, I remember reading in the early 2000s that the power plants were well preserved by the Ukrainian's.

According to this "They are shipping the 003's steam turbine engines to the yard"

Otherwise please ignore my previous post/tweet. It was aimed at a certain US guy who tried to explain that the 003 carrier is in fact smaller than the Liaoning and Shandong since he scaled all images to the same size of elevators and in fact it is only a SMALL carrier! ;)
Does 003 use the same type of steam turbine as Shandong? Since its bigger and use EMALS shouldn't it require more powerful engines?
