Thx, this problem has bothered me for a long time~The orientation of the 2 bow catapults are dictated by the need for aircraft waiting lunch on the port side catapult to not block the path of an aircraft taking off on the waist catapult.
The US carriers have two waist catapults. The inboards waist catapults is slanted closer to the centerline. The necessitated moving the rear of the port side bow catapult further inboard to clear it. So the two bow cats don’t point straight ahead. Both point slightly to port.
The Chinese carrier has only 1 waist catapult. That is parallel to center line and further outboard. So the rear of port side bow catapult on 003 didn;t need to be shifted over as much to star board to clear it. So it don;t look like it is paralleled tot he starboard side bow cat.
