Really? I was unaware of this issue. If true the root cause could be that the Chinese do not have a smaller training jet for carrier pilot training like a MiG-29. I stated this years ago. The J-15 is a big aircraft for carrier duty. That instantly makes it harder to handle in all aspects of Naval Aviation.

There were a number of news report pertaining to crashes and the cause seems to be associated with flight controls.
China National Radio reported yesterday that a top-class PLA J-15 pilot died after he lost control of his plane during a simulated deck landing exercise at a unspecified inland base.
“When Zhang Chao was flying a carrier-based jet fighter in a mock landing on an aircraft carrier on April 27, he encountered a breakdown with the fly-by-wire flight control system,” the report said.

The J-15 is too heavy to operate efficiently from carriers, has problems with its flight control systems, has crashed several times, and more, Sputnik reported.

The need to develop a new fighter jet has become more pressing after a series of “unpardonable mechanical failures” that have killed one top PLA pilot and injured another.
Two sources close to the military told the Post there had been at least four crashes involving the J-15, although only two of them have been reported by state media.
“The J-15 is a problematic aircraft – its unstable flight control system was the key factor behind the two fatal accidents two years ago,” one of the sources said.

You have served onboard carriers and landing is the most difficult and dangerous phase of carrier aviation. Landing is basically a "controlled crash" and if the airplane has difficulty in flying within certain landing speed and descent it will crash.

How many accident that US carrier pilot experience over the years?

Many, many aircraft accidents most occurring in an age with low technology...Of course no other nation operates carriers at the tempo and numbers of the US Navy..As I write this,05.25.2019, the US Navy has three Nimitz class CVNs at sea conducting operations.

Aircraft Carriers Underway:

USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) - East Pacific

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) - 6th Fleet

USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) - West Pacific

Also the US Navy has operated aircraft carriers since 1922. That would be 97 years. The US Navy has had in commission sixty-seven Fleet and light carriers. Not counting LHAs, LHDs & LPHs.

You are reading too much of western propaganda. There is no issue with J 15 It has been operating for 7 years now 2 serious incident one fatal and one not so fatal , one bird strike
That is good record considering China never had any carrier before and no one teach her or provide ready made carrier They have to do it themselves down to bolt and nut NO country has learn the carrier operation as fast as China

It is not a statistical discussion but rather the underlying reason behind the crash. The lack of recent carrier aviation activities and new production would suggest to me that the underlying flight control issues are still unresolved.

As I said you just eat the western propaganda If you introduce new system they will have a bug that is given That where the term debugging come from

Given that China never design or built carrier based fighter before J 15 The statistic speak for itself
2 confirm accident over 7 years with 1 fatal accident is damn good record

Now who is talking here F 35 is what decades behind schedule and billion of dollars over budget Yet still not fully functioning They still have problem cropping up every day!
Are you saying F35 is crappy design? Of course NOT

Another example Boeing 737 Max 2 fatal accidents killing what 350 peoples

The lack of activities is attributed to Liaoning undergoing refitting and resurfacing so she is out of action for 6 months It has nothing to do with failure of J 15

They still train on land with J 15 see this thread

Carrier operation is dangerous thing I bet even the US navy has accident once and a while

Interesting logic you are exhibiting. If the problem exist, whether it is reported does not change the facts.

If you introduce new system they will have a bug that is given That where the term debugging come from

I am happy to admit that there are plenty of problems and issues with the F-35 program. However that is not the subject of this thread. The issue is there is a general reluctance to even discuss let alone admit there is a flight control problem with the J-15. The evidence can be seen by the attempts at distraction and obfuscation.

This is high octane BS. The platform has operated in almost a decade with only 2 crashes.

Based on that logic, how much doubt is cast upon the USAF for crashing their F-35 barely a month in LRIP?

This is continuing the corporate media’s tradition to cry about the lump of gold in China’s hand not being a lump of platinum, while holding a lump of shit in their own hands.

More than a year has passed since the domestically made carrier undertook its first sea trial on May 13, 2018. News website wenweipo.com reported earlier this month that the ship will likely be commissioned within two months.

China's second aircraft carrier in likely sixth sea trial, comprehensive tests expected: report

China's second aircraft carrier seems to have embarked on its sixth sea trial on Saturday, judging from online videos, pictures, and an announcement of a military exercise in relevant waters. Military experts said on Sunday that the likely trial might feature comprehensive and final tests that could see the warship commissioned soon.

After a display of fireworks, China's first domestically built Type 001A aircraft carrier set out from the Dalian Shipyard in Northeast China's Liaoning Province under the assistance of multiple tug boats on Saturday, according to unverified videos and photos posted on Chinese social media on Saturday. Domestic news site guancha.cn also reported the possible move, citing online photos.

The aircraft carrier's alleged movement coincided with a navigation restriction notice released by the Maritime Safety Administration of China. The notice, published on Friday, said a military mission is scheduled from Friday until May 31 in the Bohai Strait and northern part of the Yellow Sea just outside of Dalian, and other ships are prohibited from entering the designated area. According to the coordinates provided by the administration, the military mission covers a wide maritime area south of Dalian where the Type 001A is moored.

Li Jie, a Beijing-based naval expert, told the Global Times on Sunday that the likely sixth sea trial could feature comprehensive and final tests before the warship's commissioning into the People's Liberation Army Navy.

After the Type 001A conducted its fifth sea trial from late February to early March, it stayed in the Dalian Shipyard and underwent outfitting works including flight deck painting and conducted a replenishment drill within the shipyard with the supply ship Hulunhu in late April, media reported.

Li said the sixth sea trial could again test those problems that were encountered during previous trials and then solved during the past months.

"If the ship can smoothly finish this trial mission, it indicates that it is basically fit to be delivered," Li said.

This sea trial could be crucial, and it might be one of the final trials before the aircraft carrier's commissioning, Li said.

More than a year has passed since the domestically made carrier undertook its first sea trial on May 13, 2018. News website wenweipo.com reported earlier this month that the ship will likely be commissioned within two months.

ok time for a update, can someone confirm the dates for 5th trial?

Type 001A Aircraft Carrier Sea Trials

first sea trial (13 may 2018 - 18 may 2018) (5 days)
second sea trial (25 august 2018 - 1 september 2018) (7 days)
thrird sea trial (27 october 2018 - 5 november 2018) (9 days)
fourth sea trail (27 december 2018 - 8 january 2019) (12 days)
fifth sea trial ( 1st March 2019- 5th March 2019) (5 days)
sixth sea trial (25th May 2019- present)

total 38 days at sea in 12 months and 13 days or 10%

in comparison the CV-16 spent a total of 103 days at sea in 12 months and 20 days or 27%

CV-16 was almost 3 times as many days at sea over CV-17

Could it mean that they had a lot of issues with CV-16 and it was first carrier hence the longer times?

maybe they are more efficient at finding issues and resolving them

if so why not have had it commissioned earlier? no point in increasing the efficiency and still taking same amount of time to hand over to the navy ?

CV-17 has a lot more advanced electronics on board that was never existed in CV-16 before. That's why for the more consistent sea trials were needed.
