I feel like a little kid at Christmas again, when I was 8 or 9, my MOM bought me an aircraft carrier named the "Mighty Matilda", had a cranked axle and rolled back and forth like waves,,, look it up, maybe even one on E-bay,,, I've always loved everything to do with flying,,,I LOVED "BRUBAKER, and the "Bridges at TokoRi",,, what were those F9F Panthers,, GOSH! VVVVVSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH off the cat, and coming back in to land with the canopy slid back,, talk about a case of the "HOTS", now that was HOT!

So...we should see the new carrier take to the sea within a few days...perhaps by February 1st...maybe before.

We will see the Liaoning continue to do exercises from her base...training pilots, but also conducting other maneuvering, task force, and deployments into the ECS and the SCS.
I believe we will see CV-17 doing trials for the next 12-18 months, being commissioned some time in that time, and then beginning to build-up her airwing.
By 2021, she will be perhaps at IOC and will do exercises herself.
IMHO, if the Chinese wanted to make a BIG splash, they would send both carrier, with two Type 055s, three Type 052Ds, and three Type 054A/Bs on a long international, good will tour. Go to the US West Coast, then through the Panama Canal and down to South America, perhaps visiting Brazil. Then on to Europe, the MED, then through the Suez canal, and then visiting Africa and then the IO. Stops in PAkistan, Singapore, Malaysia perhaps, Around the world cruise of both carriers would make a HUGE statement.
That's what I would do...say in the 2021-2022 time frame.
Qing Navy made a ”goodwill” visit to Japan and it backfired spectacularly. PLA Navy is no longer Qing, but I don't see China doing this kind of showoff when two carriers are all she has. UK, India, even Japan may have two carriers in the not too distant future, so having just two carriers doesn't really make China above the pack.
Admiral Zheng He did multiple goodwill voyages when Ming dynasty had world's most powerful Navy, only to see the entire fleet disappear from history..
Given how things had turned out before, China would have many second thoughts when contemplating anything like this.
Doing joint excercise closer to home is a different story, of course.
