I don't know about that, Jeff. Away from land based air support, comprehensive USN, USAF, US Space, and US Cyber commands would make mincemeat out of the Shandong CBG. I affirm China's impressive accomplishment in such a small span of time, it is amazing. I also believe the Liaoning and Shandong CBGs could project power against its SCS neighbors, especially with support from Chinese newly created bases in the SCS. But, even the combined efforts of both Liaoning and Shandong CBGs stand no chance against even the retired Kittyhawk CBG. The comprehensive military, including nuclear attack subs, is just too wide between US and China at this point in time. I'm not trying to denigrate Chinese achievements, they are impressive indeed, I'm merely pointing out the stark naked truth: PLAN isn't up to USN standards yet, and wouldn't be for several decades.
It was not my intnt to imply that she woud be able to take on, one on one a US CSG.

It was my intent to indicate that China's capabilities are improving and that any Navy has to respect that and be prepared for it...and you can bet the US planners have been doing that for a long time already and the US has already done the experiences that would pit them against any and all opposition they can imagine.

The training they do is not just willy nilly.

Anyhow...I was not trying to call for or look for a war scenario discussion.

siply saying that the PLAN are making good progress and have now developed and put two carriers of their own in the wter...and that the ships, while different, and while lacking the types of capabilities a US Navy carrier has...are impressive vessels in their own right and shoould be respected.

To follow up on the story, China's Ministry of Defense apologizes for the error in yesterday's regular MOD press conference. The MOD spokesman Yang YuJun said it was a mistake and while the editor made the mistake, the relevant leadership is responsible for it. He also said, the particular WeiBo post and the following comments by netizens will be left there unchanged as a reminder for future.

I applaud this unprecedented apology; it's actually good PR, compared to trying to be evasive or simply delete the post.
Yes they apologized...and boy did they need to.

You woud think the MOD would have sme review of these things before they put them out for all the world to see and the types of mistakes they made ther were very ametuerish and fan-boi type mistakes.

I know the PLAN professionals know a lot better...cetainly they did not get a chance to review it.

it just tells me that the PLAN and PRC is infected with the same types of political/uniformed types of Rear Echelon political types as we have here and in almost every toher military in the world these days.

Personally, I just wrote it off to that.

I guess this is why it is called "dry" dock.
Does everyone know what is a wet dock? It's a dock in which ships remain afloat while the tide goes out and comes back again while the ship works cargo out and in. These were very important in former centuries.
