is 45 years old. It is only the visible part, which makes believe that it is a very fast development. The foundations were created in wise foresight a long time ago.

I don't know where you get 45 years Even going by your reference It was not until the Chinese get the HMS Melbourne in 1986 that the program started. I have no doubt they take the ship apart and studied it . But it was not until Admiral Li Huaqing took the helm of PLAN that officially the program started. But it was starved of fund for many years. So all they can do is study .

Remember that Varyag was bought by private company Chong Lot owned by millioner Xu Zhengpin a former PLA man who out of patriotism bought with his personal money Varyag for the Navy.
That was in 1998. He complained he wasn't reimbursed by the Navy

Without advanced shipbuilding industry China cannot build a large ship. It wan not until China get into the subcontracting the western design firm that China acquired the knowhow of building large ship

It was not until late 80's combined with their own research that they finally has the technology

So it is not right to say China started the program 45 years ago. Even using the time lines when Melbourne was purchased it is only 30 years But realistically it was not until they get their hand of Varyag blueprint that the program started in earnest which is 1998

. The project was called Project 707, named for 1970 - 7 (July). This was terminated soon after due to China's dire economic conditions. The second project was initiated in 1989, called Project 891. This was terminated in 1995 after the research group decided that China needed a CATOBAR carrier and would take a while to develop enough technology and industrial prowess to design and build one. Sometime later, owing to the pressures of Taiwan separatists, the PLAN decided to procure the ex-Varyag. This will be expanded upon over at the CV-16 Liaoning thread.

That island is huge. If they want to build better carriers, they must build smaller islands. It takes away a lot of deck area.

, The day of the 68th anniversary of the Chinese navy. We have concluded that it seems difficult for Type 001A to leave the dry dock, given the state of progress of its construction.

Now some new features revealed by Chinese Internet users seem to be challenging this.

First we have several photos, taken apparently by the Dalian spotters this Sunday April 9, which show that the painting of the dead bodies and superstructures works of the Type 001A keel has begun.

In five days, the hull of this 60,000 tonne aircraft carrier is already painted gray. We can see it in these two photos, one dating from the 4th and the other from the 9th of April.

On April 9th, painting of the 2nd Chinese aircraft carrier, Type 001A, is in progress (Photo: ss5)

Although several layers and passages might be necessary, but this is consistent with our observation, where at the time, the exterior painting work of the superstructure of the Liaoning aircraft carrier was completed within two weeks as well.

On April 9th, the superstructure of the aircraft carrier Type 001A seems to have been painted in gray too (Photo: zhanzuoqing)

And, in a somewhat less certain way, it would seem that one can see the mobile crane in operation, which is a priori used to lift the 4 planar face radars of Type 001A.

On the Liaoning , the installation of these radars was carried out from April 28 to May 16, 2011, that is to say 19 days in total. If we extrapolate this figure and assume that this same installation began on April 9 on the new aircraft carrier, it should end on April 27, not so far from that of April 23rd.

Finally, a Chinese visitor today posted a photo of a first-day envelope with the image of the second Chinese aircraft carrier with the words "commemorating the first Chinese aircraft carrier," and A stamp dated 23 April 2017.

Indeed, it is the custom of the Chinese Post Office to make first-day envelopes and special stamps to celebrate important events, and the launch of a first aircraft carrier in China - even if it would be more accurate Talk about the major overhaul of an existing design - would deserve a collector series.

A more careful examination of the photograph shows that the layout of the envelope in question and the shape of the seal and the characters used are not quite the same as the other official first-day envelopes.

Extensive research on the website of China National Philatelic Coorporation and several sites of the Chinese philatelists did not give any indication either of the existence, or a forthcoming publication, of such a first-day envelope and associated stamps .

This point of inconsistency is also raised by several Chinese military analysts, who talk about a possible computerized work by amateurs.

And do you think that Type 001A, the second Chinese aircraft carrier currently under construction at Dalian Shipyard, will be launched on April 27, 2017?
