Z-18F has strong anti-submarine capability...
surface search radar at chin with a search range 40 to 70 km, can detect periscope and masts..

CV16 has 7 helicopters on board wow !

They are using like a LHD lol plus a carrier

Always getting better

China needs to use more sea borne helos and get this experience under it's belt

So 7 x helos and 13 x fighters so far

The biggest threat to CV16 is submarines and heavy screening is a good idea no doubt USN will be tagging this carrier

don't forget the CBG - they have to kill submarines;
subhunters (like Z-18 F) on board of the carrier should be the last joker

I just posted this in the J-15 thread;

I'd just like to know what sort of flight ops the ship is doing.
How many sorties a day?
What is the length of of those sorties? You know..how long are those J-15s staying aloft?
Are they launching with any weapons?
How reliable are those J-15s?
Have they fodded any engines yet?

I wonder because to me the bottom line is how does the PLAN operate these big airplanes? They burn a lot of fuel. I think launching off CV-16 WITHOUT a full bag of gas? (in my opinion) Just how do they do this? I think their sorties maybe truncated. Maybe only 45 minutes to an hour. Perhaps the PLAAF is lending a hand are refueling these big birds.

Of course I could be incorrect in my assessment.

Is there any sort of airborne EWAC capability operational with the Liaoning now? The z-18j does not appear to have any radardome that offer 360 coverage.

Z18J is the airborne EWAC . The radardome is retractable inside in the helicopter if it not in use. Once airborne a door is opened and the radar is lower It has 360 degree coverage

AEW helicopter just landed on the deck of the aircraft carrier Liaoning. The helicopter features a retractable radar antenna located behind a completely redesigned rear door. The radar is thought to be a long-range multi-mode AESA developed by the 38th Institute. Once the helicopter is in the air, the door opens and the rotating antenna is lowered vertically and can provide 360° coverage. The antenna is then retracted into the fuselage after the usage.
