that Liaoning has left port for a new training campaign. Areas are closed in the period 6 to 18 Novembre.
He remarks on training, including rearming aircraft, fire fighting &c.
Also comments on the changes to the propulsion plant which I am not able to understand with my limited knowledge of the French language and steam plants.

Here is the google translation. Apparently they make a lot of modification on the original Varyag propulsion.to improve reliability. The main change is They lowered the Steam operating pressure in high speed, and maybe compensated it by using larger steam turbine. They say it eliminate problem that still dogged Kutznetzov. There is video link that show excellent condition of the propulsion system here it is. I see a lot of J 15 on the runway. Did intrepid said 10?

A few days after welcoming the commander-in-chief of Russian naval forces to his home base, Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning has left for a new training campaign.

The duration and exact location of this trip was not formally communicated, but it can be assumed that the aircraft carrier left its base near Qingdao and returned northward before reaching Bohai Bay where it The habit of training.

Three notices issued by the Chinese Maritime Safety Administration, which indicate several zones of prohibition of navigation active from 6 to 18 November, seem to confirm this hypothesis.

Of these three areas, the northernmost one is only 15 kilometers from the Chinese carrier training center, where two new test tracks with catapult were recently inaugurated (see our file "The Chinese Navy is starting Catapulting tests').

It is unclear at this time whether the aircraft carrier Liaoning will also participate in the catapult test program, notably to test the landing of the J-15 catapultable version.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Army has published about 20 new photos on the recent activities of its only aircraft carrier. Through these photos, there are at least 8 J-15 aircraft on deck, and the crew continues to train on various subjects, such as sending and recovering aircraft, fast reloading Ammunition or the fight against fire ... etc.

It is rare for the Chinese Navy to broadcast pictures of Liaoning's weapons systems, but this time we can see not only the HW-10 HQ-10 missile and H / PJ-11 gun fire, But also the presence of anti-diver's rocket launchers on the Chinese aircraft carrier.

The national television channel CCTV-7 also broadcasted a report in its newspaper of 8 pm on the senior NCOs working in the machine compartments. This short film of 4 minutes showed us several unpublished images on the propulsion of this carrier of 50 000 tons.

When the ex-Varyag was sold to China, propulsion systems were the few parts of the ship that remained in a proper state. The Chinese engineers then analyzed all the systems and implemented more than 1,000 modifications in order to improve the stability, the reliability and the overall performance of the propulsion.

One of the major changes is to reduce the pressure in the boiler pipes, in order to prevent boilers from operating systematically in over-speed mode when the vessel exceeds 18 knots, a problem that was present on its sistership, the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.

Yup it is in working order according to Xu Zhengpin here is what he said
Contrary to information that had been disseminated by Beijing, Xu reported that all four original engines of the propulsion system remained in place preserved in grease seals at the time of purchase and removal to China.

A refit restored them to working order in 2011.

I guess Beijing spread disinformation story to make sure it pass Bosporus smoothly even if Beijing has to bribe Turkey with loan and promise of Chinese tourist. Not sure about the boiler though but that should be no problem for China. For 30 million dollar it is cheap but the cost add up if it include transport He estimate it cost him 120 million. Beijing never paid him up
Read the full story in South China morning post still available. Wiki has summary

I guess it shave off development time by 30 years . China does not has to go thru Moskva and Kiev class of ship. It is manna from heaven.
It is amazing one man determination can change the course of reluctant Chinese navy

Using a lower steam pressure means using more fuel I suppose. I wonder that changes had to be made to make possible reaching the required speed while using a lower steam pressure.

Nice.. I was an ordnance-man. But we did not have any special large loaders. Mostly muscle..we did have mechanical loaders for mines, torpedoes and bombs in excess of 1000 pounds.

We used a lot of muscle....and they still do!

PHILIPPINE SEA (Oct. 5, 2016) Sailors load an MK 82/BLU 111 500-pound bomb onto an F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the "Eagles" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 115 on the flight deck of the Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The MK-80 series general-purpose bomb family was created in the late 1940s and has been the standard air-launched bomb for the services ever since. The general-purpose bomb family is designed to provide blast and fragmentation effects and is used extensively in a number of configurations, including laser-guided bombs, joint direct attack munitions, and air-delivered mining applications. Ronald Reagan, the Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) flagship, is on patrol supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. edit....On second look of the Chinese sailors it appears they are moving the missiles possibly from a container and not loading them. And I've seen photos of PLAN sailors loading weapons by hand.
