Were those phased array radar panels there before?

Which phased array panels?

I ask because the Type 346 arrays (the same as on 052C) have literally been part of Liaoning since its original refit from the ex-Varyag hull back in the early 2010s over a decade ago, and it is very easy to do an image search of Liaoning back then to confirm they were there.... So I'm wondering if you're referring to some other arrays or something other feature.

My bad, sorry.

That doesn't clarify things; are you talking about the Type 346 arrays?

Alternatively, you can probably do a search of past pictures from a decade ago to answer your own question.

There is a 2012 picture of Liaoning showing both present.

We literally had weekly picture updates for Liaoning's refit in the early 2010s, and the earliest pictures of it on Liaoning were literally as they were getting fit onto the ship in May 2011.

.... But who cares when it was first fit?

Maikeru was asking if the phased arrays were there "before" which I assume means "prior to this time in drydock" which doesn't need us to go back to the early 2010s like 2012.

One only needs to search up any Liaoning picture in the last few years to be able to confirm the answer to the question.

Which is why I'm a bit confused, if Maikeru is asking about the Type 346 arrays themselves as being present "before," because surely such an obvious answer could have been found by a simple search?

When the designers of Kuznetsov class designed it, they probably wouldn't have even dreamt of it one day fielding jets like the J-35. Meanwhile the Liaoning's sister ship Kuznetsov is still in a state of shambles. In some ways the Liaoning is almost like the Midway of China.

They upgraded the propulsion on the Kuznetsov by installing new boilers. The older ones were basically destroyed by sailors putting salt water on them. This stupidity basically destroyed the Soviet ships in Russian service with this kind of boiler. Not just the Kuznetsov carrier but also the Sovremenny destroyers. I haven't seen them upgrade the electronics in the carrier thus far. Which is kind of surprising. The Russians plan to put the Su-57 on their carriers eventually.
