Good for the Russian vaccine. It should alleviate some concern and make it much more appealing after all those Western media misinformation.

It is just funny how NYT tries to explain why so many politicians contracted covid even after second dose.

Stupid and selfish. Bayer firing her is surprisingly extreme. Wonder if China will send her back to Australia now she isn't working in China and would probably need to change her visa if she wishes to stay for whatever reason. Stupid and selfish people are the majority though. Need a firm hand to slap the idiots out of it sometimes.

Turtle privilege , living overseas sometime you flaunt your status and become arrogant. Like what I mentioned from my previous post, my relatives who had received their US green card look down on us as though we want to become like them and become US citizen. Now they're asking for help cause they lost their job from the pandemic. Being a good Chinese we help a little knowing they will be embarrass to ask for more but they didn't, they had indulge in their white privilege mentality and its like we're obligated to help.

Those personalities are just a little more insecure perhaps and a little less dignified.

Cuckmen like the HK poster boy contrasted with Chads like Qian Xuesen. Their attitudes. One returns to improve his homeland so that it may one day improve beyond its (back then) hopeless ruin and awful social conditions vs man child with worthless western indoctrination mantras and inability for true critical thinking or abilities.

One group gets shat on by the white right/chauvinist and fears/hates them in gloriously cowardly liberal autism. All the while begging for acceptance elsewhere and facilitating it by shitting on himself and China for just being what it is - a flawed but bettering people and society.

The other overlooks the odd government policy blunder, national tragedies, massive social turmoil and understands that to have a better future, work need to be done, impermanent compromises made, eggs broken etc. These are dignified men who bring dignified eras. They don't bitch and complain as their only contribution. Same with some new age mentality going on. Sure there is a lot of nuance here and this is really doing a lot of people injustice because it all contributes to China's progressing in their own little ways. It's not the white privilege mentality but the underlying psychology.

I don't think that's extreme at all. They have no other course of action than to immediately fire her. Any company that wants to do good business in China and avoid massive public and governmental lash back should be vigilant to always uphold the image that they have incredibly high respect for all Chinese laws and governmental orders and well as the safety/well-being of the Chinese people at heart or they will become the next Dolce & Gabbana. They should kick her out like a leper at an orgy before their whole China arm becomes unraveled for it.

I don't think Bayer's employee doing something stupid and illegal like that can be compared with D&G's intentional racism and provocative signalling. D&G was vile and had total agency throughout. Bayer doesn't need to really apologise for her any more than they would need to apologise for another employee somewhere else having annoyingly bad breath. Anyway that's just how I think about this. It's their choice to bend over pretty far for China here. Maybe they also think someone that stupid and selfish probably doesn't make the best employee. People have been fired for far less I suppose.

Here's another example.

A Chinese Australian woman breached coronavirus quarantine in Beijing to go for a jog -- and lost her job

The woman tells the officers she has an Australian passport.

"I tell you, no matter (if) you're Chinese or a foreigner, you have to comply with the law of the People's Republic of China" one of the officers says. "This is to protect yourself and to protect others."

The video caused a storm of criticism on Chinese social media, with many calling for the woman to be "repatriated back to Australia." Some internet users later found out she worked for Bayer, the German pharmaceutical giant.

Bayer's Chinese subsidiary confirmed Tuesday evening that the woman in the video was an employee -- and had been fired. "According to relevant rules, the company has decided to dismiss the employee, effective immediately," Bayer China said in a statement on its official account on Weibo, China's Twitter-like platform. "All employees of Bayer China should strictly obey the various measures imposed by local governments to fight the Covid-19 epidemic, as well as local law and regulations."

My viewpoint is that these assholes who spread COVID through their irresponsibility deserve punishment.

I'll see your two anecdotal examples and raise you a 60% increase in Chinese overseas student who returned home in 2020:

26% of those students were from the UK, 16% from Australia, and 13% from US. All countries with large numbers of Covid-19 infections throughout the year of 2020.

BTW, the woman in the article above wasn't even someone who was trying to flee the pandemic. She was simply assigned to China by her employer.

Apparently some kid showed up to school while symptomatic here in Calgary... Right after returning from the UK. Parents like that should be fined and fired as well.

Agreed, but depends on what situation you are in, this women is a product of her time when Chinese society worship the West. Owing a Western passport exult privilege and the way she act confirm it. Now people like her is being frown upon as the society changes and China had become confident. Like I said before I had seen people sacrifice everything including selling their houses and fortune to become a US, Canadian, Australian , NZ and UK citizen, for them achieving it is a lifelong dream, most of them didn't make it and become illegal Aliens.

D&G is definitely not the same as Bayer now, but if Bayer stood by her, it's a path of escalation until things get big and bad for Bayer. Retaining her sends the message that they don't care about Chinese laws or safety; they just want their operation there to run smoothly according to plan and to earn money. They also didn't recall her back to her original post, which could be seen as the company retreating their employee back to safety away from Chinese law. Instead, they fired her and severed all ties. This is a strong message that they uphold Chinese law and safety and will not tolerate people who don't; that comes first and the details of their operations come after. Those who commit criminal activity in China will find no aid, refuge or sympathy from Bayer anywhere. That's beautiful. It's probably just a gesture to China to make Bayer look like that type of company but it's still beautiful.
