Devastating blow. Looks like the Oxford vaccine pushed by the English/Indians shows little efficacy against the South African variant.

Small sample sizes but ~10% efficacy? What a disaster.

Doesn't protect you against mutations however.

There is a study, can't link to it right now as I read it before and I don't remember where it is now, that describes people with long term covid infection, or repeated covid infection, are spawning multiple mutations in a single body. These people have become petri dishes cultivating virus mutations. That's probably how the Brazilian and South African variants evolved, and these are crowded third world countries.

I'll be worried, and India needs to do more gene sequencing about the possibility of a new Indian strain.

And many people still wonder whether Chinese scientists are the real deal. Duh...many of them have been doing great research at prestigious universities in the West. Such as Oxford. Would they not share their research with their colleagues back in China?

That's the whole point of doing research in the West, learn things. Then some will bring back the knowledge to China.
