Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

Talking about beef. Every time when I watch any eastern Asian talk shows (Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Japan, SK, etc), they talk about how dangerous American beef is. I've been eating steaks of local Angus beef (medium rare) for decades and have not felt any issues. And I have not heard any of my friends complaining about their steaks/beef... What is going on?
Lol those guys still remember mad cow disease which had been gone for ages now.

I cook my steaks rare or medium rare. It comes down to what you grow up with. If you grow up eating corn fed American beef, then u will think it's totally fine. I grew up eating AAA or prime Albertan grass fed beef, so eating anything else from US can taste the difference for sure.

Also North Americans think young cows 2-3 years old is ideal. It is for some cattle, like Angus beef. But actually older cattle taste great too, like those from Spain is typically 5-6 years.

Coronavirus: Asian experts say Oxford study showing higher hospital death rate among non-whites suggests socioeconomic, not genetic effects
  • The British study found that Asian and black patients were 1.62 and 1.71 times more likely to die, respectively, than their white counterparts
  • Such unequal outcomes are linked to social and economic factors that affect how members of these communities live and work, the experts said

an interesting info which makes sense for instance if many from this or that group of people work as cab drivers then this or that group is more endangered; note it has nothing to do with "racism", if it had, I wouldn't post!

Sadly, kids are not immuned as people thought earlier

Some say this could be a new strain while others say those children died of other respiratory illnesses but were previously infected with the coronavirus so they had positive antigen tests

I think we need to clarify one thing. I don't think anyone has ever said that little kids are totally immune from the COVID-19. Younger patients get milder symptoms, STATISTICALLY speaking. That means significantly lower percentage of kids get serious symptoms and die. I think that percentage is ~0.5% or even lower. I'm not sure the exact number. But that still means 5 kids per 1000 of them still die of the COVID-19, most like because of underlying health issues that they may have. So what we are seeing here is totally within the expectation. Nothing weird going on.

It saddens me to see everyday, Chinese or Asians being the victims of racist assault. Sees it all over the world, but (now I'm not bashing country) two countries stands out. Australia and America. But they also seem to be a particular area in Canada around Vancouver. Is there a large population of Chinese there?

If I see any racist behaviours, I'll dive in without thinking, but I'm not as young as I used to be. So I think I'll come out worse.

Hopefully, it won't turn out to be anything like dengue fever.

Coming down with dengue fever the second time can be much more serious than the first time.

I think these are the first 3 kids so young (ages 3-5) to die from COVID-19, if not in the world, then certainly in NYC. And there are three of them in close succession (I think 2 at Mount Sinai), so this is certainly out of the normal if it is COVD-19-caused, which it very well may not be.
