"About the executive order: Starting on Friday, people — 2 years old and older — must wear a mask or cloth over their nose and mouth when riding on public transportation systems, ..."

etc., well that's what's been ordered in Prague one month ago (since March 17, but could be on March 16 night) when there were a small number of COVID-19 deaths

oh and yes, it's enforced, the fine can be up to something like a half of net monthly salary of an average guy

Many countries, including Italy, are now contemplating reopening their economy. I would caution everyone here that the reopening WILL be the most dangerous time for everyone. Currently, most people stay at home and social distancing is at its maximal. When we all go back to work and go to restaurants and grocery stores after the reopening, while assuming everything is good, many asymptomatic people and people who just recovered from their earlier infections but still shedding viral particles like ticks will be among us. Many of us, who luckily escaped the first wave, will be infected. We will be in the second wave soon...

The infamous 1918 Spanish flu had 3 waves and lasted until the mid part of the 1919. Most people killed by the Spanish flu died in the second wave. Although the primary reason has been attributed to the WWI, where soldiers had to be all crammed in trenches, field hospitals and camps, the number one reason for such a high death toll has been undoubtedly more social interactions among certain populations. In the early 20th century, we had 1.7 billion population. Now we have close to 7 billion. With all of us sharing much less social distance among us, we are all like the WWI soldiers, living in and going to various crowded places...

So please be extra careful in the next few weeks, especially when your own community reopens with enthusiasm. Think you are doing a good job hiding from the bug now? You need to maintain the exact same rigor, and maybe even more strict, on maintain social distancing and your own personal hygiene. We are just about to enter the most dangerous phase of a pandemic...

@vesicles Shouldn't the fact that cases have been under control for a while and a surveillance and testing infrastructure put in place significantly mitigate if not nullify a second wave? The Spanish flu waves were more of the natural seasonal cycle of influenza viruses more than any social control measures (which wouldn't have been widespread or effective at the time). The lockdown sort of set the odometer at 0, with chance to do things right going forward. I trust China to get this right, as for the rest... may God be merciful.

Like the UK is calling for a review, I call for a review of @Jura's status in this forum given his spamming behaviour.

Unfortunately, most of the places won't wait until their odometers to go down to 0. Many places are planning to reopen their communities simply because they think their cases have peaked. So they still got hundreds and maybe thousands of infected people walking around. Many places haven't even done enough testing and still have no idea how many infected people they have in their communities... We will have unknown number of the infected people with light symptoms or no symptoms coming out of isolation. They still shed viral particles and still can infect others. Everyone will be force to interact at meetings, social gatherings, grocery stores. Many will have parties to celebrate the end of their "imprisonment". We will have a massive contamination with uninfected and infected... Welcome to the second wave!

Thousands of people just had a protest against the stay-at-home order in Michigan. Just think what these people would do when all these orders are lifted... Party time, baby!!! And a few weeks later, it will be party time for the virus... This is why we all need to be very disciplined at this time. Maintain your social distancing, wear masks, wash your hands and stay away from crowded places. Yes, it will continue to limit your freedom. That's true. As I've said before, when you are 6 feet under and locked in a box, you will have zero freedom. Locked in a box alone for eternity vs. the comfort of your own home surrounded by your loved ones and your material comfort. Your choice.
