Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

I'm already going off topic so I will keep it to a minimum & I won't talk any further about Xi after this post (anyone else can talk about him as much as you want though, I'm not a mod) , my main issue with Xi Jinping was back during the HK protests, I always thought he should have sent the PLA to HK to bring back order, instead he chose to do nothing in HK, I have nothing against protesting against a government for the sake of better services & rights but HK protesters were merely protesting beacuse they support sepratism.
@plawolf brought up a good point I forgot to address. The 61M figure for Swine flu is the CDC estimate of the total number of people infected with the vast majority not confirmed because they did not require hospitalization or professional treatment. This figure cannot be confirmed or compared to China's 6,000 number because that is the number of confirmed hospital cases. The Wuhan coronavirus has ~6,000 hospital confirmed cases with ~130 deaths, putting the hospitalization to death rate at ~2.2%. The death rate of the swine flu amongst the hospitalized cases was 11% in the general population, rising to 18-20% in persons aged over 50 (source:

).

Also, here's a good read for you to grasp what a rough flu season actually looks like. It will be of great educational value to those who are "100% certain" they will survive any flu but not the "deadly" Wuhan coronovirus:

. In summary, in the 2017-2018 flu season, America saw 900,000 hospitalizations and 80,000 deaths, numbers so high I'd say that the US quite possibly suffered a worse pandemic, but didn't call it one in order to stem panic.

PS. I agree with you on Hong Kong, and I would have liked to see what you wanted to see, but I have trust in the CCP that the correct decision was made by people with more information and more strategic thought than me. Chinese people turning on their own president is what all enemies of China want to see.

Comment: the rate of infection and new severe cases seem to be stabilized somewhat over the past 2 days.

Other news:

Wuhan is testing 2,000 patients a day. 100,000 diagnostic kits will be shipped to Wuhan by early Feb. More than 28,000 patients are under observation in Wuhan. More than 88,000 are under observation nation wide.

Here's the problem with US propaganda, they always looks at things from their perspective. It's like when after the Arab Spring, some anonymous posting on Chinese social media called for a revolution to happen "at this place" and "at this time". When the time came around, who showed up at this place? US ambassador Jon Huntsman and the Western media. Like the West will show up for any anonymous message calling for revolution? So someone in the US State Department goes on Chinese social media and anonymously poses as a Chinese citizen and calls for a revolution in a post. So what makes them think Chinese people will rally for a revolution based on an anonymous post on Chinese social media? They forgot they were posing as a no-one Chinese person but thought like an American thinking people love Americans so much that they will follow blindly anything Americans say to do.

Since the HBO series Chernobyl was so acclaimed and popular and won awards, it must have the same popularity in China too for them to compare Chernobyl with the coronavirus. Star Wars anyone? The Chinese people are angry at the government because they mishandled how the Chinese people mishandled their disregard of all the strange animals they eat without concern for anyone else's health because of such eating habits. Yes its very American to not take responsibility of one's own actions and quickly blame it on someone else. I have no idea if Chernobyl was seen in China but let's go with the propaganda we hear about China... China is very sensitive so why would they air a TV series that criticizes a communist government's mishandling of a disaster?

Can someone clarify what's going on with the hospitals? Are they building one or two hospitals? Did they finish one already or are they both still under construction?

How many beds are there? I've seen any number from 700 to 1000 to the 1600 posted by Hendricks above.

AFAIK they are building a total of two hospitals; the first with a capacity for 1000 patients, the second for a capacity of 1300 patients.
