I think... I can’t say what I really think of what he meant. But he wanted to paint it as me playing at gallows humor. Or the idiot who sends the Truck, the boat and the helicopter on because a miracle is coming...
My point is that as the temperature goes up and people are being blasted with the nightmare scenario people are going to burn this out. Spring is coming. This thing started in November and ran though the winter. That’s the normal cycle.

Right on all counts TerraN, Spring is here on the "grand prairie" of Central Obamastan, there does remain a lot of cold and flu but they will soon meet their match with warm weather, the coronavirus will meet the same fate.....

but you are right, there is nothing humorous about people being sick and stricken with illness, and some in a weakened condition succumbing to the coronavirus.

I do indeed hope you are right, but as Jeff says, we shall see???

Point taken. Hopefully in the coming months, as the weather warm up on our side of the world. The infection will improve. But judging from what happened, I fear it will increase before it will decrease. I hope I'm wrong.

That’s why I said near. We have a little burn time where the last infected are counted.
My concern for major new cases is in the South. We have been spending so much time talking China and the North that the Southern Hemisphere has been all but ignored. As the North warms the South reverses and cases have already broken out in the South. Just as Air travel connects China to The northern major populations. It allows transport to the south Flight to Southern Africa and America have been going without restrictions. Most of the Southern Hemisphere is third world or unstable.

When China is under control, do you guys think China will send personnel and equipment to other hotspots?

Just wonder what ya'll bet on gov't will do.



I'm against it because we need to restart our industries, let our people rest, and then we can think about helping others.

China did send teams to Iran, Iraq and Italy (is Indonesia next?). They are all small teams of experts, not front line healthcare workers.

Do these journalists ever do any fact-checking? Wuhan did warn the public on Dec 31.

The actual interview was about the failure of the health authorities and hospitals to protect front line healthcare workers, which was IMO borderline criminal. All HCWs got infected in Hubei before mid February and later died from COVID-19 MUST receive government compensation (to their surviving families). I'll be extremely mad at the Chinese government if it fails to own up to this mistake.

However, it's by now very clear the spread of COVID-19 can only be controlled by strong government actions. Warnings from a few individuals won't make any difference. If it does, U.S. won't be in the mess it's in right now.

China should propose a joint mission of WHO and member state governments to evaluate all countries' responses to COVID-19. Chinese government made many mistakes, but judging from the public information available these mistakes were far less serious than what the Western media portray. It will be advantagous for China to be more transparent on this.

As much as I'd like to believe that, this seems more wishful thinking than anything else. COVID-19 is not the flu. There is no evidence that warm weather will dispel it. Current weather in Italy is 17C, that warm weather doesn't seem to be ending the Italian outbreak. Iran is current around the same temperature, and dry to boot. It's still experiencing exponential growth.

No, I really don't think the number of US infections has peaked or is near peak. I think it is just the beginning, and we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg right now. As long as people keep pretending everything is normal, and goes about their business as usual, this thing will keep spreading.

The tally is now 1000 with so few tested. Sofar CDC can't still not deliver the promise of "million test kit" by last week.More delay is expected.

There are now more than 1,000 cases in the United States – eight times more than just a week earlier. At least 32 people have died of the virus nationwide.

"I can say we will see more cases and things will get worse than they are right now," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Wednesday morning.

New York state has taken dramatic action to contain one of the largest known virus clusters in the country, setting up a "containment area" of about three square miles around the city of New Rochelle, which is less than 10 miles from the heart of Manhattan. There are 108 confirmed cases in Westchester County, New York, alone.

Meanwhile, in origin country China, there is mounting evidence that strict control measures pay off. Premier Xi Jinping has declared the disease "basically curbed," and with only about 10 new domestic infections reported in China on Wednesday, other countries were adopting similar tactics.

Italy has the biggest coronavirus outbreak outside China, with more than 600 dead and 10,000 COVID-19 infections. The whole nation is under travel restrictions, with stricter controls in hard-hit northern regions.

There have now been than 120,000 cases worldwide, and more than 4,300 people have died. The vast majority of cases are mild, and almost half of those infected have already recovered.
