Nah Nah. First of all the people who not supported Covid Zero dont get the right to complain, this crappy newspaper SCMP tiresly attacked China Covid policies even with the Delta Variant. Second of all there is not half measures with Omicron, this virus spread faster than measles, its already infected hundred of millions in weeks. Shanghai implemented half measures to try to do both keep open and Covid down a failed because is almost impossible to stop Omicron without strict lockdowns (Zero COVID Policies). Outdated MRna vaccines will do nothing to stop people from flooding hospitals and dying, not way beyond than other vaccines. Also how many outdated vaccines the West would had "donated" to China? like 20 million? out of population of 1400 million? Unless Pfizer decide to manufacture MRna Omicron specific vaccines in China to cover a good chunk of the population, there are useless.​

Agreed. Personally, I would do worse on these sort of individuals if I was in a position of power. They serve no "journalistic" purpose other than to create a very negative slant on China and the government at every possible move for no other reason than to ultimately see it's downfall and demise. Then having some f...ng medal on his chest being hoisted along with his like minded fellows around the western world for ending and bringing down China.....That's how I see most, if not all of these sort of people.

I did not realize that becoming a journalist gives anyone the license to lie, fabricate, conjure up imaginary facts, jump to you're already biased conclusion with a supposition.

I wonder if this same mongrel wrote anything this critical when all the death and mayhem were happening in the U.S. and other western led countries especially since western countries such as the U.S. Canada were rated so highly as the most ready to face pandemic like situation compared to China in the first place.

Death toll will be more accurately determined by analyzing excess mortality/excess deaths several months later.

My own take is by the end, the final toll will be around 100-200k. It sucks, but compared to other nations China would have still done a lot better.

It still boggles my mind that so many nations are taking a victory lap over China. The simple reality is that no country has any bragging rights over their COVID response, not least the US with its 1 million deaths. And yeah, China sure as hell didn't craft a perfect response to the pandemic, but contrary to all these articles published recently, I think history will judge China has having emerged the best from an all around shitty situation.

How so? Japan has already had multiple waves of covid outbreak and high vaccination rate and mostly mRNA vaccines but its hospitals still got overwhelmed even now and many seniors still dying hundreds daily.

For SCMP which advocated for reopening even after the disaster in Hong Kong has no moral ground to make such accusation. These journalists are a piece of shit that knowingly what would have happened if zero covid ended but still advocating for such position but later turn around and pretend to care and drop a few crocodile tears.

If you reopened and ended zero covid, people died. It doesn't matter how prepare you are. The only difference is when those people would die in the first wave, second wave or until covid finally got you. If mRNA vaccines are so good, why hundreds of people died daily in Japan and the US. SCMP promotes mRNA every day as some kind of miracle vaccines is just laughable.

Fever pill or cold medicine don't prevent deaths. These medicine just makes you feel a little better but make no difference in preventing deaths. China doesn't have enough doctors or nurses which the Chinese government has said so in the beginning and doesn't need anyone to point out. Moreover, even developed countries such as Japan and the US couldn't cope with a surge of covid so his points are like a joke.

The simple answer is they fucked up during the pandemic especially the Western countries which before the pandemic have claimed their superiority in health care and pandemic preparedness. When covid hit them, they all failed and failed so miserably that they have become a joke.

Due to inferiority complex, MSM has become so obsess with China covid responses and would do everything to discredit China. They want so much to show their superiority in vaccines and medicine that they tried so hard to promote mRNA and demonize Chinese or Russian vaccines. After mRNA vaccines failed to live up with the hype, they turned to Plavoxid which is another over-hyped drugs.

The problem with China is that there are many traitors such as those SCMP journalists. These journalists would do anything to please their masters and overlords. Another thing is that some mainland Chinese are too obsess with perfection and have become unrealistic and idealistic that no government can live up to their expectation. Holding the government in high standard and accountable is logical but setting unrealistic expectation of government is just naive.

I agree with everything you wrote with some exception. The people who wants or demands perfection from the Chinese government is not exactly a bunch of idealistic dunces. They have simply accustomed themselves to a functioning government that has been able to meet and from time-to-time meet the expectations from the Chinese people. Plus, it keeps the Chinese government, especially the CPC on their toes to ensure that they never dare to relax in the relentless pursuit of national rejuvenation of the Chinese dream but also in actual efficient, effective, responsive governance to the people. Without that undue expectations and pressure from the Chinese people, the CPC/government may succumb to complacency, calcified corruption, and government that offers nothing but lip service.

Just in case nobody remembers what happened: Before opening up to covid, in August 2022, several infected were found in Xinjiang. The local government of Xinjiang tried the old way, the zero-covid one. They lockdown several blocks (where these infected people were found), check people in these lockdown areas once in two days and send all infected people they found to a makeshift hospital(specialized for covid patients), hospitalize them for free. During the process, people in lockdown areas will receive free vegetables, meats, and other food once a week. If this is not the new variant(I can't remember which one) but the original covid 19, things should end within a month, as past two years. But what happened was, newly infected people were still found after 3 months(November 2022). People who were not infected in the lockdown areas started to feel uncomfortable. Economic fvcked up. And still, newly infected people continue to show up, even some well-protected volunteers, government officers, and medics are found infected.

The Zero-Covid policy saved millions of lives, but it is just impossible to keep going that way anymore.

The sudden loosening of the COVID-19 restrictions and the swift reopening since December last year has resulted in a truly high toll, especially for the elderly population.

Recall that for the last 3 years, China only had around 5200+ deaths. Now, in just barely more than one month, the death toll is more than 10 times that amount.

This is a real heart-breaking news, especially considering how many families in China that would be left with one empty seat on the table during Reunion Dinner this year.
