Lol, my experiences are completely different from yours. One of my brothers-in-law who have visited China with family a number of times used to sing praises on how fast China has become so advanced compared to Malaysia. Most in my family/relatives circles do not normally express an opinion on China with a few who do expressly pro-China maybe thanks to our years of listening to our elders/uncles (no longer with us) on the history of China.

I don't remember colleagues and friends making much of an opinion of China other than recently I overheard from this lady that this manager (of ethnic Indian incidentally) making rounds in her office showing dead bodies of Covid victims in China. The other opinion that I overheard, of how China backed out of attacking Taiwan after the Pelosi visit, was incidentally also from a person of Indian ethnicity, not from a Boba Hanjian (whatever it means as it is the first time I have heard of it).
It is one thing for a non-ethnic Chinese to be anti-China and spread all kinds of false info. But it is a whole other thing if that person is an ethnic Chinese with an ancestral line in China. These Boba Hanjians enthusiastically call for the discrimination and hatred on the Chinese people, maybe underestimating that that hatred can easily backfire on themselves. For instance, they support calling Covid-19 the 'Wuhan virus' or 'China virus', not caring that the hatred and discrimination could just as easily fall onto themselves. They also fear monger people into rejecting Chinese vaccines and medicines. And then urge them to listen only to the West. Many Malaysians who were apolitical have been peer-pressured into choosing AZ or Pfizer vaccines, and then keep taking more and more boosters just because the West said so. So these Boba Hanjians can have a real negative impact on society if left unchecked.

They call and support for the decoupling of Malaysia or Singapore from China, underestimating the fact that many livelihoods depended on trade and tourism from China. Most recently, they are starting to form a chorus to call for the denial of entry to all Chinese nationals into Malaysia. These idiots also support hardline anti-China leaders like Trump, Scott Morrison, and Abe, probably ignorant or complicit, that these people do not desire to improve China, but to destroy it.

When there are evil global forces threatening your ethnicity, culture, and your ancestral family, and then you support those evil forces? It is difficult for me to look at these people with respect and benevolence. I can only do my part, which is to try to counter their wicked agenda. I had a family friend who was in a rush to go and get another Pfizer jab because those China hater A-holes were screaming all over social media that "the dirty Chinese are coming into Malaysia". So I try to educate and calm her down. Inform her, that in Malaysia we don't even count the Covid cases of Malaysians and other nationalities. So if she fears the 'new Chinese variant' she is probably ignorant of the other mutant variants already in circulation around her without control. And she is still doing fine anyway. So she better think this through properly, before going for another jab. Don't make a rash decision because of some anti-China hysteria going on.

They are everywhere. They are colleagues, friends, and family members. I don't give a damn about those on the internet, they could be JH trolls for all I care. Boba Hanjians are easy to spot. They will lecture you 1001 bad things about China and the Chinese people. It can get your blood boiling, listen to their crap. When it comes to normal life, these Boba Hanjians are decent people. But when it comes to any topic about China, then they can become mindless fools.

P.S. I do have a family member who is a Falun Gong member. She is a middle aged woman with a long history of mental illness. In a way, this does show, what kind of people join FG, or what kind of people FG targets for recruitment. It also explains why FG members can so easily believe in mysticism, sorcery, and fake history.

Quite a large number of chinese in Malaysia do not view China positively. Among the many reasons are:

1) Before China opened up the chinese stream schools were very pro-Taiwan with teachers doing their studies in Taiwan. Teaching materials and news were also mainly from Taiwan thus there is a certain generation probably in their 40s now who conciously or subconciously have a prejudiced view of China.
2) The chinese that went to english stream schools were mostly anglo-centric in their views. This has made them very susceptible to religious conversion to Christianity especially when major efforts to christianise non-muslim Malaysians started in the 1970s. This has now borne fruit in the fact that now a large minority of english educated chinese are christians. They listen to their pastors who are mostly affiliated with US pentecostal/evangelical fundamentalists churches. You can imagine what their views about china might mostly be. (Sidenote: This is also applicable to Singapore)
3) The mainstream newspapers mostly source/buy their news from the major news agencies from the west thus the news that many people read has a definitely western slant.

I'm a Chinese Malaysian as well, but among my close circle of friends and family, I can say the pro-China voice easily drowns out those that is anti-China. Usually in our family chat groups, positive China news or stories are the daily routines. There was one so called "boba-like" behaving relative earlier on the group. The moment he went full on boba on China was when he quit the group, after getting a stern rebuttal from us.

Among my friends circle too, this is usually the case. The anti-China folks keep to themselves lol.

The variant XBB.1.5 rapidly emerged as the dominant strain in the Northeast in recent weeks, according to modeling data from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. In the region that includes Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia, the variant makes up nearly half of new infections, followed by BQ variants.

now would be a good time to place travel restrictions on US tourist for the safety of the world.

i wonder what those idiots who want restrictions to be placed on Chinese tourist have to say now, or will they just keep quiet and continue to bash china?
