Suppose things were reversed and the west was successful in implementing zero covid while China was doing living with the virus with 4 million deaths, do you not think they will still be criticizing China?
Western double standards against China is real. DOS is allocating $500 million per year to "teach" journalists on how to "properly" report on China.

The majority of supporters on this forum are also not in China getting locked down. It's just weird to be this supportive of something that they have never experienced themselves. They are enjoying their freedom in some western country, going to work, making their living, while fanatically supporting something that doesn't actually affect their day-to-day lives.
I locked my family and myself down for a few months after the government declared state of emergency. Personally, I don't understand what is so big of a deal of not able to vacation or eating out or going to a movie.

As for not being in China, do remember that most of us have a ton of friends and family members that reside in China. Most of them aren't affected by zero covid that much. A few of my dad's friends did switch from being tourist guides to live streaming and selling stuffs online.

Hating zero covid is perfectly normal. There is a very high human and financial cost associated with it.

End of June this year, China's government debt stood at CN¥ 58.6 T, household CN¥ 84.5 T, corporate CN¥ 188.2 T, per PBOC.
Given the US national debt, which rose sharply during pandemic, and which do not even include state and local government debts, one would easily see how correct and comparatively cheap China covid policy is, regardless of whichever exchange rate one would use. That's not even comparing household and corporate debts. Publicly available data are all there to compare and make one's own judgement, it'd be better to avoid long boring statistics readouts here.

Difference is that you decided to lock yourself down and probably had access to food and other amenities during that period. In a concrete jungle like Shanghai this is very often not the case.

That isn’t an issue caused by zero Covid though in my opinion. That is more or less the local government’s failure to handle the logistics of implementing zero Covid. They had months to prepare for the worst, but instead they just sat there with their thumbs in their mouths, thinking that the worst won’t come.

Even though I am well prepared. I do have some difficulty to get food and other amenities two months after self-imposed locked down. But there are always ways around it through networking and other methods. What happened in Shanghai is more of a complete failure of the government and community. Other major cities perform much much better.

People are weary of further lockdowns. The risk of another lockdown in Shenzhen or Chengdu is considerable given the nature of Omicron. And its going to keep on mutating as long as there are humans.
