why do you think they get triggered by zero COVID policy? like, not just disagree, but vehemently, passionately, HATE it. I mean would you be so passionately angered by say, mortgage rates in Romania or something? Doesn't affect them right? Theoretically neither does zero COVID affect them.
Look at some of the posts of our fellow members on this forum. They are also, unfathomably infuriated with zero COVID. You'd think Xi punched their dog or something. It's mind-boggling.

Another variant making waves in Europe: BA.7.
Other variants of omicron now include BA.5, BA. 4.6, BA. 2.75.

BA.7 has a different Spike protein, making it potentially more immune evasive. Children of variants “don’t grow relative to their parent unless they have an advantage.”

Hating zero covid is perfectly normal. There is a very high human and financial cost associated with it.
The majority of complainers not in China getting locked down though lol. Beyond supply chain disruptions, Chinese lockdowns have next to no impact on your life. It's just weird to be this fanatical about something that doesn't actually affect your day-to-day life.

The majority of supporters on this forum are also not in China getting locked down. It's just weird to be this supportive of something that they have never experienced themselves. They are enjoying their freedom in some western country, going to work, making their living, while fanatically supporting something that doesn't actually affect their day-to-day lives.

Not opposing existing policy is standard behavior. Actively opposing a policy that doesn't affect you is not standard behavior.

Certain countries now offer the freedom to be subject to debt peonage, literally get TRAPed in a job.

Hmm, some temporary few week lockdowns or literally getting enslaved like some war torn third world dictatorship while still not being safe from COVID. Decisions, decisions.

Zero covid is supported because it is a refreshing and inspiring counterpoint to the shambolic covid responses in these western countries, where 6-7 digit deaths are recorded, and shows what a competent state can achieve to protect their people. It is inspiring to see that when all you see around you is skyrocketing homelessness, poverty and inflation.

Bear in mind that if these same western countries were able to mount a working covid response like China did in 2020, covid would have effectively ended there.

In addition, we can all see that the western hate for zero covid is driven by jealousy, in the same way dropkick fans of premier league losers view the winning team.

Management of Covid in the West from the beginning has been a total disaster. That’s the other end of the spectrum.
