After the Shanghai fiasco? I dont think so.
I'm happy to see they are finally doing some of the policies I thought would be effective.
Also finally they are encouraging the use of KN95 and N95 mask which is more effective than surgical masks by a lot, I was starting cringe seeing photos and videos of them mostly wearing surgical mask.
Restaurants are allowed to be open but takeout only, which is similar to Shenzhen during the early days of their lockdown.
Now I'm hoping they'll encourage and supply air purifiers and UV lights. then build up more isolation centers, its baffling how slow they are in implementing and experimenting new measures.
You say they are slow, but anyone else doing anything similar lol?
At the end of the day though, things take time to carry out, especially when you're as big of a country as China and as populous as it is (there should be more urgency now as well I suppose).
I thought it was slow because they only implemented it after two years of pandemic, but then again they could have been complacent or implementing them takes up resources and manpower. After the Shanghai fiasco, these implementation started to spring up, so I guess they have the capability to mobilize quickly all along, for when things become urgent.
With how omicron is epping out in Jilin and how numbers in Shanghai are going down, the 'worst' of it should be over now.
If anything, the light at the end of the tunnel for Shanghai should very much be visible now.
You can say what you like about Mao's ability to run a country but he really does have prescient visions when it comes to this sort of thing. Three years after he wrote this Pearl Harbour happened, fulfilling condition 2 in his prediction and then things turned out exactly how he predicted. I bet Taliban spent a lot of time studying this book judging by their performance in the last 20 years, particularly the events of last year.
Getting back on COVID, just as in his time today we also have "lie flat" defeatists, but rest assure most people in China look down upon such defeatist thinking and the case of Hong Kong and Shanghai are decidedly considered to be negative examples. No one is saying in public "let's give the Shanghai strategy another try."
The current big outbreak in Taiwan will also reinforce the need for dynamic zero strategy. One wonders what public sentiment will be in RoC towards DPP once people start to see daily 3 digit deaths.
