It seems like they are trying to adopt a strategy similar to Shenzhen where they do mass testing, ramping up testing capacity and putting access restrictions on people who don't have a negative nucleic test for a week.Beijing will be the true test of China's zero COVID. Shanghai did not implement it properly. What happens when 10 new cases pop up, and you have no idea where they came from?

Seems like this going to be a new normal for China now, where they're going to have your nose and mouth swabbed every 2-3 days. Its similar to a vaccine pass, but for PCR testing and with an expiration date on the pass.

Looks like they are going with the same trajectory as South Korea have gone through.
Taiwan: 17,085 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, 16,936 local and 149 imported cases
Only by special request. And if you pay a little extra, you can choose the size, shape and colour of the swabDo they still do anal swabbing? My nose bleeds too easily.
I think you have no idea how many people want to visit China. In 2019, was almost 155 million. Your proposed 14-day quarantine, presumably at the traveller's expense, should cut this figure drastically. But even so China's quarantine facilities would be overwhelmed very quickly. Opening the border isn't practical at this time.I am pro-zero Covid. My only criticism is the needless closure of the border. I think China should open the border to foreigners with 10-14 days of mandatory quarantine. This is similar to what Europe did in 2020 and 2021. Also, small closed-loop areas can be designated so international business meetings can be done face-to-face without quarantines.
EU's lifting restriction to non-essential travellers from third countries during 2020 and 2021 are based on conditions such as 1. number of cases per 100000 inhabitants lower or close to EU average and 2. vaccination rates. If China is to take that approach as EU did in 2020 and 2021, NO country in the world can meet the Chinese standard. So it is not that China does not want to do as EU did, it is that nobody could be qualified at this moment.I am pro-zero Covid. My only criticism is the needless closure of the border.
