Ever tried making elderly people do what they don't want to do? How are you going to punish them?
I like to see the nay sayers on covid zero policy and the pro mandatory vaccination people in action when they track down all the resistant elderly among 1.4 billion people in China, cajole them, plead with them and if needed physically force them down to inject a shot in their arms against their wishes , then do it again after few weeks for the second shot and again for boosters. Should be interesting.

That was a small increase, I'm glad it isn't as bad as I think it will be that it will be similar to HK. If this trend continues, the death should go back to single digits daily in about a week. Also it looks like they are taking testing more seriously now in Beijing, taking lessons from Shanghai's botched response, I have high hopes it the situation should be resolved relatively quickly.

On the flip side, a spike in deaths should scare elderly into getting vaccinated. Look at how HK vaccination rates jumped after bodies began piling up.

If China has such a superior model of the state, then it should easily achieve better vaccination rates than the West.

Vaccination rates positively correlate with infections and deaths. The more people die around you, the more likely you are to want to get vaccinated. It's basic human animal psychology. Therefore states that have done poorly have a higher vaccination rate than states that controlled the spread of the virus.

It relates directly to the number of cases. Since death occurs on average about 19 days after infection, the trend of death would be about the same as the number of cases, but with the same number of days of delay. Hopefully, the 52 is the number of reported death and does not refer to the actual date of death?

Fortunately, cases in Shanghai seem to be on a downtrend already for the past week.

China already has higher vaccination rates than the west.

Death rate and quality of pandemic response seem uncorrelated with vaccination rate.
