Correct me if I am wrong, but last time I checked hell broke loose when China forced lockdown Wuhan. However, when Australia can mull of invoking a 'law' that gives the government the authority to restrict the movement of anyone just suspected of carrying the virus then it's not a big deal.

Is it not an example of curtailing human rights?

I wonder how those shining beacons of freedom on the hilltop would have done under similar circumstances.

China is able to control COVID-19 more sucessfully is because of SPEED. The ability to trace virus movements in realtime and react immediately, thus the use of AI and deep data and mobil phones. The West use to trace terrorists the same way.

Even Xi Jinping wore an ordinary surgical mask when he toured a clinic in Beijing.

AFAI remember, Xi went to a remote diagnose center where Beijing doctors can help their colleagues aiding Wuhan. Later he visited a residence community and welcomed by dozens of locals.
Yes, he just wore an ordinary surgical mask.
Typical "set an example" style publicity, CPC's old tradition. I think it worked again, the crazy chase for N95 mask seems gradually ceased after that.

What did the Indian government do?

At the end of Jan., about a week after Wuhan lockdown, India:
Issue a ban on exporting PPEs, especially masks.
Confiscated masks from luggages of returning Chinese tourists.
Suspended cotton export specifically to China.

Their is another saying from propgrammer circle about Indian hackers launched an API cyberattack to China's medical information network. I don't see much evidence neither proof of an official act so I dont put this into count.

It is even amusing in a 3rd person's view. With such lack of sanity and ablity, India can hardly do any harm to China anyway anyhow.
I just feel sick to the plain inhumane and viciousness within their act.

The ban was later lifted.

Academician Chen Wei's team has made important achievements in the development of new crown vaccine
According to CCTV news broadcast on March 3rd evening, the scientific research team led by academician Chen Wei of the Academy of military medicine has been working hard to fight on emergency research and achieving important achievements in the development of novel coronavirus vaccine.

In the video, Chen Wei said, "President Xi pointed out that vaccines, as a special product for the wellbeing of people, are essential for epidemic prevention and control. We must keep the leader's instructions in mind and strive to push the recombinant new crown vaccine we are developing to the clinic and application in the shortest time, to provide strong scientific and technological support for winning the prevention and control of the epidemic. "

Chen Wei is a female scientist who has made important contributions to many hard battles such as the fight against SARS and Ebola. She was promoted to the rank of major general in July 2015 and elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in November 2019. The novel coronavirus vaccine is also the "seed athlete" in the running of the new type of coronavirus vaccine.

On January 26 this year, on the second day of the lunar new year, major general Chen Wei, 54, led the expert group to Wuhan. A novel coronavirus nucleic acid detection kit (RT-PCR fluorescent probe) developed by the Military Medical Research Institute and local companies 2 days later (January 28th) was registered by the State Administration of drug supervision for emergency examination and approval. Four days later (January 30), the tent type mobile detection laboratory of the Academy of Military Sciences started to operate. With the application of self-developed detection kits and the full-automatic extraction technology of nucleic acid, the detection time of nucleic acid was greatly shorter than the existing time, which accelerated the speed of diagnosis.

China's most recent novel coronavirus pneumonia is the most popular issue in the January issue of Chen Wei, which is worth mentioning. Novel coronavirus pneumonia is being developed at top speed by the government's support, Chen Wei said.

"But there are inherent cycles and rules in vaccine research and development. However, our understanding of the biological characteristics, pathogenic mechanism, transmission mechanism, susceptible population, etc. of this new virus is still very superficial. Therefore, it is unrealistic for us to get the vaccine within one month as soon as reported on some platforms." "Of course, I can't rule out that a very good research team can do better and faster," Chen said at the time

"On January 28, President trump announced that U.S. scientists will develop a new crown vaccine within 12 weeks, and I believe that our national researchers will not be slower than the United States," Chen said

The novel coronavirus mutation is fast and is also in the category of coronavirus. At present, big data research is developing rapidly. Once new mutation occurs, it is possible to find common target antigens, pathogenesis or receptors through bioinformatics or big data mining, and can quickly guide the improvement of vaccines. Chen Wei said.

China has sent 63 ECMO machines and about 10% of the nation's ICU personnel to Hubei since the outbreak. I don't know how many ECMO beds Hubei had at the start of the outbreak but I'd be surprised it's below 10.

To put this into perspective, England has a population size similar to Hubei (55m vs 57m), but only 15 ECMO beds at the moment with 28 maximal capacity during a crisis response.

China had about 400 ECMO beds at the start of the crisis (before emergency orders of additional 80+ machines were made to Germany). I doubt ECMO beds capacity could be increased much further because of the high staffing requirement.

If you calculate ECMO beds per million population (excluding the emergency orders), the Chinese number is 400/1400=0.28 per 1m, and England is 28/55=0.51 per 1m. I don't have the numbers for the rest of UK but I'd be very surprised if their numbers are better than England's. It's not surprising that UK as a fully developed economy with 4x GDP per capita has a better healthcare system, but the difference is smaller than a lot of people in the developed world would assume. Throughout the crisis I've seen health experts both in the UK and in Japan saying on TV that the Chinese healthcare system is on the same level as their own country's and people should take the threat very seriously. Sadly decades of Western MSM distortions of China has led both their own public and policymakers to complacency.
