The choice the government is taking now is experimenting with different methods on each of the provinces to see if they could keep the severity and spread of the virus to stable levels, then do a cost/benefit analysis on whether to continue with their strategy or pursue a different one. Unlike the Western style of lifting all restrictions and letting it rip within their population, which has big economic and social cost on the population.

And yes its expected they'll write something like that, their media is paid by those companies to do misinformation/downplay on the effectiveness of other vaccines, while overexaggerate their own. If we use their own metrics, then South Korea shows why Pfizer and Moderna doesn't work and that they should approve Sinovac and Coronavac.
The problem with China is that they still need to reach 90% vaccination rate for the third dose for Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines.

Shanghai, along with Guangdong, has always enjoyed far more autonomy than other Chinese provinces. I still don't expect any senior Shanghai leaders to be punished for their Covid-19 handling, but it will be interesting to see the long term political fallout from this.
It is the officials in the central health agencies that need to be "punished" for delaying the third boosters doses. They have to realize that omicron is very difficult to totally avoid.

My aunties just get their third booster (Biontech) 2 weeks before their infection. I don´t think that any vaccine will help to avoid the infect. On the other side I know more than 30 people with Covid and all the people are still alive.

The danger of not treating this outbreak seriously in China and letting it go out of control is increasing hospitalization and deaths among the elderly. Even though China has by most country standard, a high percentage of its population vaccinated, something like 88%. However we know the elderly is very vulnerable, plus immunity wanes after second shot quite dramatically against omicron. China also does not have mandatory vaccine policy.

So The underlying problem is China massive population that even a small percentage that's either vulnerable or unvaccinated or elderly means alot of people getting wrecked and the hospitals to be overrun if the virus is allowed to let loose freely that western media is dying for China to do aka live with covid. Just 1 percent of 1.3b is already 13m people.
