It seems like symptomatic cases are decreasing while asymptomatic cases are increasing. Perhaps more proof that the vaccine worked?
本土4320例 new asymptomatic cases
Vaccines work, early detection, intervention, and treatment, and Shanghai's abnormal asymptomatic cases. For Shanghai, it is more a political thing. It wants to prove that its precision approach works well and doesn't need to lock down. However, it does look like Shanghai is losing the battle. Shenzhen 7 days lock down approach seems work better. It seems like symptomatic cases are decreasing while asymptomatic cases are increasing. Perhaps more proof that the vaccine worked?

I think it's too early to call it losing for trying a different approach.
Let's see if Shanghai can contain the spread without pushing its hospitals over the limit. The local health authority must be closely watching the number of hospitalized cases. It will be a good lesson for other tier 1 and tier 2 cities.
There is another politcal reason. During a press briefing on March 26, a member of the city's pandemic special task force explained why Shanghai is taking this approach.
"Shanghai cannot lock down for a week or 3 or 5 days. Keeping Shanghai open is critical for the nation's economic development. Lockdown would even have global impact."
"...Let's see if Shanghai can contain the spread without pushing its hospitals over the limit. The local health authority must be closely watching the number of hospitalized cases. ... "
That sounds ominously like following the lead of the Western countries.
I agree with Kyli at the moment a certain amount of lockdown is still advisable like the case with Shenzhen.
Imo, China should only loosen restrictions further when at least 90% of the population is fully vaccinated and boosted.
I can agree with that, in the past China has stuck with one strategy, without testing to see if there's another alternative that is less costly and more beneficial. Having multiple provinces each trying out different strategies gives them a wealth of testing data and references to further hone their response to adapt to a post-lockdown world. While I am usually not a fan of Hu Xinjin, this comment from him on this particular issue resonates with me quite well:
