Don't have a problem for you to advocate for mRNA or new vaccines but you have made your points. No need to repeat it multiple times.
China needs to boost its vaccination but not necessary to be mRNA, local or imported. Further, vaccines are reported can help prevent serious illness and death but not enough to stop infection (omicron). That means, social distance is the only mean to curb the virus!

At the moment, China needs to get people boosted first. 30%+ boosted rate is too low. New vaccines are not ready to deploy yet so need to rely upon the old ones first. In addition, 88% vaccination rate is too low for a country that doesn't have natural immunity. Hong Kong is a hard lesson to be learned. Even two doses of vaccine can cut deaths by 90%. That's why even if only 10% of Chinese didn't vaccinate during an outbreak, death tolls still be enormous as China has a big population.

I have confident if it needed to be social distancing or lockdown. Chinese government can do a good job. The thing is China is probably trying to figure out a way to stamp out the virus without too much disruptive actions. But don't look like it works very well at the moment. Let wait and see.

How come China's vaccination rate is still not high enough? They have been doing all kinds of universal testing, and lockdown. Why not just boost everybody when people come for testing? Just doing mass testing like crazy is rather useless. People lining up for testing again and again is a waste of resources.

China doesn't have compulsory vaccination policy. Some people just refused to be vaccinated. Others think they can wait. 88% is nothing to sneeze at compare with other countries. Just that China has no natural immunity so required higher vaccination rate to keep people out of hospitals.

How often do they give boosters?

Some colleagues were discussing the situation in HK, I also think it was mentioned here by @KYli, but the private hospitals are refusing to accept new patients which is leading to the scenes of people in the street in HK.

Does the government have no emergency power to compel them? Seems bizarre.

It's funny because some HK acquaintances always point out how "stupid" the Canadian healthcare system is because you cannot pay for access. I always say they are over simplifying it, and simply paying for access does not guarantee quality and usually creates a bottleneck in the worst case scenarios, and this seems to be what is happening here. Not saying the Canadian system is perfect, but I understand the philosophy.
