Inactivated and viral vector vaccines show nearly the same rate of preventing hospitalizations and serious symptoms as mRNA vaccines can.
If viral vaccines are done right, which is namely Sputnik-V, it can match the efficacy of mRNA vaccines.
Protein subunit vaccines has shown they can match the efficacy of mRNA vaccines.

That 51% result was from Brazil and it was using healthcare workers as the cohort. Healthcare workers contact the virus more and they are regularly tested. I really wonder how many people died in the developing world because they rejected Chinese vaccines, probably the only vaccines they had access to because of Western hoarding, because of those articles. The difference is West gave up at the very beginning, whereas China will treat it like any other regular cold/flu AFTER variant is evolved to be less severe and population is vaccinated and boosted. That's over 3 million lives differences between West and China.
Severity depends on exposure. Cold virus are very mild for humans but deadly to chimps who have no exposure to it.
Flu virus helped wiped out entire human societies in the past --- Meso American civilizations like Aztecs, and natives of the South Pacific Islands. We're talking of genocidal levels here.
