For the last few days, experts within China such as Zhang Wenhong and MSM and SCMP and Caixin have all come out against China zero tolerance strategy and suggested China should learn to live with covid. However, former Chinese health minister Gao Qiang wrote an article strongly refuting such suggestion. GT also came out against it. Look like China would stick with zero tolerance in the foreseeable future.
In a strongly worded article on the website of the government-affiliated think tank China Health Economics Association on Thursday, former Chinese health minister Gao Qiang rejected the laissez-faire approach to the pandemic, blasting the countries who are following it for “recklessly removing or relaxing epidemic control measures”.
“Is it feasible to ‘coexist with the virus’? The author believes that it is definitely not feasible,” wrote Gao, who was health minister from 2005-2007. “The ‘coexistence with the virus’ [seen in] Britain, the United States and other countries has already brought serious consequences to global efforts to contain the epidemic. We must not repeat the same mistakes.”

Some minor outbreaks in Chinese cities and the Western stooges are all clamoring for China to adopt their self defeating strategies.
Zhang Wenhong is an attention whore promoting quack theories on Chinese social media. Sadly, he has a lot of followers.
Zhang Wenhong has always had this sort of altitude since the very start of this pandemic. He's been saying "we should learn from US how they manage to keep society running with 300k new cases a day" and so on. So at least he's been consistant
I personally think he spends too much time being an internet celebrity and not nearly enough time being a doctor. I would certainly not want someone like him to replace Zhong Nanshan in the future.

I agree! China can learn to 'live with it' only after boosters for new variants is available, children have access to vaccines, and high vaccination rate +80%.... To adopt a 'laissez-faire' hands-free attitude now would be putting the most vulnerable high-risk population (elderly, immunosuppressed, comorbid) at risk and be highly irresponsible... West would love China to adopt their loser-strategies.... but NOT before China at minimum has children vaccinated and herd immunity levels and new booster shots.

I think he spends too much time on scrolling through and chatting in a fanatical Chinese Christian or right wing Facebook or Wechat group through VPN. Those are literally the only places where one thinks America is running “normally”.
Zhong Nanshan was open minded about relaxing some restrictions after fall if the vaccination rate were high enough. However, he adjusted his position after Delta variant outbreak in Guangdong and the worldwide. Now, Zhong Nanshan is arguing against opening anytime soon. As a scientist, you need to be open minded and informed to make a rational decision and opinion.

Any medical scientist or doctor that spreads COVID misinformation should be investigated for licensing.
