Mr T is giving great advice. My wife runs the de-frag every three or four days. I don't know why she does it so often. We clear our browsing history etc everytime we log off or switch users. Our computer runs very smooth.

No one should need to defrag that often. The Windows analysis will indicate how many files are fragmented or not. If it's mostly blue with only a little red, you're fine.

It's rare to need to defrag when the checker says you don't need to. There's only a bit of space between it getting a bit fragmented and it coming back recommending you take action.

I know that and you know that..but apparently my wife does not. Because she keeps doing it..time and time again...I told her but she won't listen..

It's probably not advisable to defrag twice a week because it could wear out your HD. You could auto-schedule it for once every few months if you're afraid of forgetting.

I use Norton 360, provides a great file cleanup tool and is less hogging than Trend Micro

That's what we have. Norton 360. Great software. It preforms well. Plus our internet provider has a great firewall.

I don't find what's so great about paying for Microsoft's mistakes from one's pocket and install a software that hogs up system resources.

On my Linux systems, I never have to do defrag. Nor have I need to install anti-virus and firewalls. I use Windows on occasions, but I rarely if ever surf the net with it.

I've never bought any software of any kind except Norton. I just use what is installed in the computer(Microsoft) that I purchased & the fire wall provided by my IP. Simple. Just like me.:D

I don't doubt that people do not like or want to use microsoft products. But my personal experience in the last nine years has been very positive with the microsoft products installed in my computers. To each his own.
