Computer Talk

Re: Computer Talk!!

Really? I have a laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHZ, 2GB RAM, 160GB Hard drive and ATI Radeon HD2600 512MB dedicated and it runs games perfectly fine. I never overheat and my settings are always on medium-high. I play games such as Fallout 3, COH, BF2, WiC.

I need a machine that can run Crisis. My laptop had a nvidia 9600 and 2.4ghz processor with 4GB RAM.... still couldn't do it. It also tends to overheat when I play games like Neverwinter Nights 2 and Civ 4. Never thought about a laptop fan though... might give it a try.

Building a computer is real cheap, if you know how to do it yourself.

Where do you get components?
I'm looking at Neweggs and its a bit pricey.

If you don't need windows or already have a copy you can use, build it yourself. Alwayus buy from newegg. The slightly higher prices are always worth the industry-leading service. Look up some overclocking guides online and you can save yourself a little on the CPU. Building a computer yourself only takes three digit IQ. The mainboard manual usually tells you everything you need to know. Only issue is possible compatibility issues, but they are more rare these days. But be prepared to do some hardware debugging. Really you only need patience, access to google, and perhaps a multimeter.

If you need windows, it is often cheaper to get it with a pre-built branded machine, and less labor on your own part.

Re: Computer Talk!!

Well guys, I just sent my order to Neweggs about an hour ago! Here are the key specs-

Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo (1333FSB, 6MB L2 Cache, 3.0ghz)
EVGA 122-YW-E173-TR Motherboard (1333/1066FSB, DDR2 800, 4x240 pin)
8GB (4x2) of G Skill RAM (DDR2 800, 1.8-1.9V, heat-spreaders included, cas latency 4)
400GB Hard Drive (SATA 3.0gb/s, 7200RPM, 16MB cache)
Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT Video Card (512MB internal memory, 32 stream-processing units, 128-bit, 550 mhz core clock 1000 mhz memory clock)

With a 850W Rosewill power supply unit all in an well-cooled, spacious RaidMax Smilodon Case.

Funny thing is... my laptop's vid card is actually better. But I just don't feel like digging deep to get a really good card just yet... maybe i'll go for a 9800GTX in a few months.

I've got a question here?
So are you going to a 64bit OS, because of the 8GB RAM, or are you even already using one?
I'd be interested in software compatibility. Is there a broad range of software/games available already running properly on 64bit, or what are will you actually do with that PC anyway?
