COMPUTEX Taipei 2009 is here. So is E3 and its back to the good ol' big sized goodness.
COMPUTEX NEWS:
- Asus has showcased a Eee PC Smartbook running the Android OS with Snapdragon meaning that it will have no Microsoft OS (YAY!) and costs will be alot lower and Snapdragon is less power hungry meaning longer battery life.
- Details of snapdragon emerge: new platform designed by Qualcomm. Features include: 1. An easy to use UI. 2. Connectivity via 3G or HSDPA. 3. The machines have less than 20mm of thickness. 4. Weigh less than 2lb or 900g. 5. Battery life will be longer than 8 hrs.
This is excellent news. Without Windows OS the laptops could be sold for even cheaper. Eee PC was the bomb that blew away fat profit margins on laptop hardware. Premium laptop makers like Sony were quite bitter about it, but in the end they all gave in and made low-priced consumer models.
..........Heres a story that can give you laugh through the tears. 3yrs ago one of my sons- who was studying Mechatronics (A engineering field constructed a home built computer for me.. But something went wrong as we turned it on, a power surge killed the power unit and must have done something else to the motherboard as it would'nt power up even after putting in a new GOOD QUALITY POWER UNIT and after trying several other loaned brand name units, still no dice.
AS a last resort we chucked this no name made in China power unit from A Indian computer parts supply chappie, real cheap about $30 but the catch was it only had a 6month warranty.but it worked yippee but sure enough the power unit cut out in 3-4 months took it back , was given another one , it worked for about the same length of time and cra...... out again......

Testing Microsoft Bing search engine vs. Google Search engine. The best way to test is to use some very oblique and specific topics.
I type "J-10" on both.
Both would list Wiki and Sinodefence as their top two entries.
But Google will also include four nice pictures of J-10s along with it. At least, it identified the Chinese fighter.
When you click images, the Google page will display nothing but J-10 fighters. All these pictures are high quality, confirmed J-10 pics.
Bing will only display some J-10 fighters, some of whom are PS'ed, some artwork, and whole lot of other stuff that isn't in the Chinese fighter category, like female underwear, a jeep, some cameras, even some anime pictures.
List videos, Google will list all the Youtube stuff pertaining to the J-10 fighter correctly & will link to some Chinese sites as well. For some reason, Bing includes two anime shorts, and a short with a certain Jeep.
Bing the "decision maker" eh?
