Re: Computer Talk!!

Finally a website dedicated to all things Shanzhai! Or as you say, cheap copies.

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

Apparently so in vogue in China now, as well as in other parts of Asia. Please not a commercial endorsement. Buyer beware though there are some remarkable looking stuff.

Re: Computer Talk!!

I saw these on line today and thought they went along with some of this discussion.

Re: Computer Talk!!

The bottom looks like an HTC phone with Windows Mobile.

It says TD-SCDMA. The provider should be China Mobile, not China Unicom.

According to Digital Daily, Microsoft appears to be earning the dubious distinction of 2009's top company of patent infringement as well as 2009's top company of losing such suits.

--- Lost $388 million to Singapore's Unilok for security technology patents.
--- Lost $200 million to Toronto based i4i

Re: Computer Talk!!

Acer is gunning after the rank of #1 laptop maker. That position is being held by Hewlett Packard with a mere 2 percentage points.

What!! Acer gunning for No1 spot.in the laptops I always thought they were reasonable but always cried off at the last moment when about to purchase one. I was told they were'nt that robust. Mind you my daughter bought a Benq 4yrs ago and thats going strong. Wasn't Benq connected to Acer in some way.
My wifes a teacher and she gets a new.Toshiba laptop every 2yrs supplied by the school. Both have given trouble within their two yr lease agreement.and I thought they were one of the best.

Heres a story that can give you laugh through the tears. 3yrs ago one of my sons- who was studying Mechatronics (A engineering field constructed a home built computer for me.. But something went wrong as we turned it on, a power surge killed the power unit and must have done something else to the motherboard as it would'nt power up even after putting in a new GOOD QUALITY POWER UNIT and after trying several other loaned brand name units, still no dice.

AS a last resort we chucked this no name made in China power unit from A Indian computer parts supply chappie, real cheap about $30 but the catch was it only had a 6month warranty.but it worked yippee but sure enough the power unit cut out in 3-4 months took it back , was given another one , it worked for about the same length of time and cra...... out again.

When I went back he said he wasn't selling them anymore too many complaints about them cheap chinese junk yadad yada yada. Any way he had 5 left in stock which I took off his hands for $80. Anyway as of last week Im down to my last three, OMG what am i gonna do when I cut those out...... yeah yeah I know shoud have got another mother board at the start, but after spending about $300 on it at the time I wasn’t exactly in the mood.

To this day its still a strange problem because it will power up if one turns it on from the computer on switch but once it has been unplugged from the wall, theres a fifty fifty chance of it playing up before powering up.

Is anyone familiar with the Indian comedian Russell Peters I find him enjoyable, because he can take the mickey from his own race, and when he's cracking jokes about Indian and Chinese traders. Well I felt like I was acting out one of these scenes as I trudged between the original place I bought all my computer parts from and the Chinese owner/staff were proving a little unhelpful with my computer not powering up and replacing the parts as they suggested it was my fault, and their rival the Indian chappie trying to cash in on some biz.
