Re: Computer Talk!!

Its out and the reviews are in. So far, its been very good, and I'm am floored with a number of features like the way it integrates 1M messaging with SMS into a smooth interface.

The smooth look of the device also has a strong style factor as well.

Re: Computer Talk!!

There are rumours of a new updated version of the iPhone 3G. Wonder what that will do. Have you seen the new smartphone by Toshiba? It looks quite good and with lots of neat features too.

We will know by tomorrow when Apple holds the WWDC. Many will wait with baited breath.

An appearance by Steve Jobs can send the price of Apple stock soaring tomorrow.

The Toshiba TG01 sounds good but it seems a bit big for the pocket with a 4" screen. Having a 1GHz processor I have questions about th battery life.

In other news, this one sounds it would truly blow.

According to Wall Street Journal (June 8, 2009), the Chinese government has required international PC makers to equip their PC shipped to China with filter software from July 1 onward.

The new software, known as ‘Green Dam-Youth Escort', would link PCs with an updated database of banned sites and block access to those addresses. Suck kind of control could give government censors unprecedented control over how Chinese users access the Internet.

The government says the effort is aimed at protecting young people from ‘harmful' content. However, foreign industry officials who have examined Green Dam say that personal information could be transmitted through the software and that it will be difficult for users to tell what exactly is being blocked. Moreover, the software could cause PCs in China to malfunction, and could make them more vulnerable to hacking.

In the past, the internet censorship practices operate mainly at the ISP, data center and content provider levels, netizens can access blocked sites by proxy servers. The ‘Green Dam' software is a new monitoring mode.

Full report at WSJ.

Rebecca MacKinnon pointed (via twitter) to the official website of ‘Green Dam-Youth Escort' [zh]where you can download the software.

Facebook clones.

"Xiaonei.com definitely is the most famous facebook clone. It copied almost everything from facebook, and its registered users has reached 40,000,000. Xiaonei’s active users are mostly university students. In May 2008 it Raised $430 Million investment from softbank.Oak Pacific is the owner of xiaonei.com, and it’s been sued for its cloning activity. Surprisingly the suitor is not facebook, but another facebook clone kaixin001.com. unlike xiaonei.com, kaixin001.com targeting at the white-collar office workers , is popular for its apps and very fast growing since May 2008. OAK Pacific purchased the kaixin.com domain name and launched a very similar website kaixin.com. kaixin001.com was not going to keep silent, and last month kaixin001 sued Oak Pacific for unfair competition and by now the judgment is still not out.

Another trouble come to Oak Pacific. A internet company Yeejee based in Shenzhen quietly launched a xiaonei.com clone xiaonei.net, which is extremely similar with xiaonei.com. really funny, isn’t it? Now people all put their eyes on OAK Pacific to see what action they will take to cope with xiaonei.net :) "
