Chinese Video/Computer Games

Like I’ve pointed out before there are YouTube videos claiming Chinese culture comes from Africa. That’s all it takes for the DEI defenders to claim it to be true. The DEI crowd ironically and hypocritically are also the biggest whiners of cultural appropriation. How do you solve that contradiction? Claim the whole culture was stolen from them.

Why bother paying attention to what internet trolls say? I rather like what Game Science did: turn all the manufactured DEI controversy about BMWK into free publicity.

Games Science publicly came out with that they were being extorted by Sweet Baby Inc which put out there more than most that the DEI consultancy agency was a fraud. If Game Science said nothing did nothing, SBI's narrative against Game Science would've been less challenged and in general believed to be true. Game Science did do something and look at how Sweet Baby Inc. is now suffering being rejected because they're bad for the game business. Sweet Baby Inc's practices didn't suffer consequences until Game Science went out of the way to expose them.

At the end of the day, a good video game will do well regardless of internet culture war. Imo focusing on whether it's DEI or not really just shields the game from valid discussion about core gameplay components. Is it fun to play with a engaging story? Then it will do well. BMWK did well not because it wasn't "woke", it was simply a technically impressive game, with beautiful graphics and deep story. The game would still be great without the eye candy.

Attributing success because of wokeness or lack thereof is doing a disservice to the hard work developers put in to make a great video game.

As far as I can tell, game science never made a public statement about the sweet baby inc controversy. The whole saga stemmed from a single Weibo post that had no connection to game science and no further evidence came to light other than countless YouTube videos riding on the controversy for profit. In terms of the extortion, when was the last time anyone cared about IGN articles??

Game Science messaged it out there that they were being extorted. How did everyone know it happened if they didn't let people know? Then Sweet Bay Inc said nothing to counter meaning there's probably evidence that Game Science had to prove the extortion was being communicated.

You are free to post receipts. I'm ambivalent about the whole saga, but the only piece of evidence that was ever presented was a twitter post of a Weibo screenshot.

They didn't. A third party posted it on social media. If they had actually come out to deny it, they would have looked guilty.

You need receipts to be convinced it happened? It doesn't really matter if you think Game Science didn't do anything directly. Somebody did and Sweet Baby Inc and the DEI initiative in the gaming world is sliding. Sweet Baby Inc and their ilk has been subject a while now before Game Science was on their radars and the slide didn't really happen until it was "exposed" they were using outright extortion. If you haven't been keeping up, a lot of these DEI in the gaming world advocates have been suing the more vocal personalities against them. But anyone regarding Game Science and the accusation of extortion... they're avoiding. They're not taking legal action against anyone regarding the Game Science extortion allegation. Why, because they know it's true. Kim Belair of SBI even gives tips on video about scaring gaming companies into DEI compliance. All you need is a monetary component in exchange to not do it and it becomes criminal extortion. They don't sue because they would lose.

Yall, saw the new Switch 2 Direct? $80 for a game... I sincerely hope no one else follows this or at least China doesn't, because this will kill gaming. With Nintendo being this greedy, GTA6 is most definitely going to be $100. Maybe a game industry crash is what we need at this point.
Its disgusting how nintendo is asking $80 for a game while offering ps 4 level graphics and assets. It can't be development costs those level of assets were easily renderer and baked 7 years ago.

It seems games under Chinese control are also financially better managed. You have Grinding Gear Games studio behind Path of Exile series backed by Tencent already recovered its development cost by offering a paid($30) early access for PoE 2 a free game xD.
