It’s something different and the devs put a lot of love into the product. What’s there not to like?
Imagine that. An AAA game with love behind it. Last time we got that from the west, maybe it was witcher 3?

I used to play pc games and back in 2015, I imagined that games 10 years later would be unbelievably good. Out of every single title released since then, I think maybe only Elden Ring fit my expectations of a next gen game...

I find it completely fascinating what's going with this controversy. I was into PC gaming but was turned off when I kept spending at least $50+ on games that turned out to be horrible most of the time. Reading and watching videos about this controversy I was taken aback because I see some of the posts coming from the same alt-right Republicans trying to ruin movies and TV for Republican interests talking about video games this time. This guy on top here goes into details what he's talking about unlike alt-right fanboy channels that are reading from talking points all saying the exact same thing. The way he talks about how these game journalists work is the same when it comes to journalism and geopolitics. I've mentioned before in this forum how journalists will write stuff about something controversial using what other journalists write because that's how they avoid getting sued.

What this reminds me of is what's going on in the movie and TV industry. When you read the trades, they are too anti-China. Why? Because they make money off of talking about Hollywood movies and TV shows not those in China. If Chinese movies were more popular, you know how many people working in the industry would be out of a job? I'm also talking about everyone that works to make movies and TV shows happen. A make-up artist or an actor's personal assistant would lose their job if Chinese actors were more popular. It's not like they can get up and go to China and find a job there. Chances of Chinese movies becoming that popular are next to nil but a threat is a threat and they have to remove it as soon as possible.

I don't know how long Sweet Baby Inc. and similar businesses have been doing this but you can see how Game Science not being Western being a first timer gaining this much popularity over a game that hasn't been released yet is a threat. You might have Star Wars going to them and make their games for them like they do with Ubisoft. Ubisoft uses Sweet Baby Inc as a consultant. They make Assassin's Creed which they're suffering from criticism even from Japan for their rewriting of Japanese history in the name of inclusion. Sorry but you don't get to drastically change someone else's history just so the minorities they oppressed can feel like they played a role. If you don't know, there are YouTube videos claiming Chinese culture is African in origin. What spin in the future will they claim are you going to hear there? When I was a kid the black kids in school beat up on the Asian kids just for being different laughing at their strange culture. So you think about that irony. White liberal racists are some of the worst racists because they think what they do is all right because it's what's best for everyone.

Western liberals think they're progressive and open-minded but they're just as myopic as the Republicans they hate. What do they have in common? They're Western. It's so easy for white liberals giving minorities they oppressed in history accomplishments from other cultures that aren't Western. They only think in black and white literally and figuratively. Put blacks and whites together and to be generous throw in Hispanics in there too and they still don't make the majority of the world. Where's everyone else's representation that they say they care for? Look past at the hypocrisy that they don't like China changing Hollywood movies in order to be shown in China because artistic integrity is so important in a freedom loving society. And that's only for China audiences. What they're doing is they want to tell everyone in the world to see and abide by what they only want.

The Western gaming media is already targeting Mecha Break. That isn't Game Science so what's their excuse this time? What's in common? Is it so hard to believe that it's just because it's Chinese?

Lack of representation for lesbian robots like R2D2?

I kid, I kid. Probably has to do with the fact that female mech pilots have very pronounced, ahem, features, that jiggle when they enter or leave the robot. Very misogynistic there those chauvinistic pig Chinese developers!

Well, Elden Ring isn't exactly from the west, it's Japanese. If we're including western developers... All the games from Fromsoft have been very much developed with care and love (including their releases prior to Elden Ring), and games like Cyberpunk have redeemed themselves from what I hear. The Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor games as well.

A few of the recent Korean single player games like Lies of P and Stellar Blade have been received well.
Recent Final Fantasy entries and Resident Evil games AFAIK are pretty good.
Some of the Assassin's Creeds apparently are okay. Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima are from western devs and are pretty good. Doom/Eternal, Insomniac's Spider Man, God of War/Ragnarok.

Though that's only from second hand opinions I've read; the only ones of the above I've played are Fromsoft entries. But it seems to me there are definitely still a lot of well made AAAs with passion behind them, including in the west.

I don't think it's useful to assume conscious racism or prejudice or different cultural desires or standards for this specific case.
Journalistic incompetence and poor translations can just as easily explain what we've seen -- Hanlon's razor and all.

There has also been no evidence regarding Game Science being pressured or coerced by any western company (Sweet Baby Inc or otherwise).

I haven't seen any media criticism of that Mecha Break game outside of possible monetization concerns (pay to win/gacha)

Monster Hunter fans have been eating good. Too bad Capcom's other games are kinda garbo.

They assume it's sexism when people have come out saying that's not the correct translation of the evidence in Chinese they base their conclusions on. Being nice to them isn't going to change their minds. Paying a $7 million extortion will.

Their assumption just sounds like usual "journalistic" arrogance. They already have a narrative in their mind and they're not going to let little commoners to change their minds.

As for the extortion claim, that is what I describe as speculation.

It's not about being nice, it's about having consumers and readers not to be misled by their own anger.
