Re: JL-15 and other trainers

It's funny, why the Ukrainian build an engine without any aircraft to fit?

They inherit an wide of engine and gas turbine knowledge from soviet union but what they lack is aerodynamic and aeronautical knowledge which the Russia did not passed it to them.

Of cos, you can build a whole product doesn't mean u still can't make money.. Being a sub contractor to supply engine for foreign customers is good business too. You wouldn't want yr expertise and knowledge wasted, right?

Ukraine still has Antonov, one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the former Soviet Union and a never ending supply of L-39 and L-59 trainers that need new engines from Ivenchenko. Also working with the Ukraine shows how ridiculous and abnormal working with Rosoboronexport was. The Ukrainians are real professionals, a deal is signed. Everything is clear and transparent. There is mutual understanding. There is a mutual benefit. There is cooperation, growth and benefit. Both parties leave the table happy. With the Russians we've got over a decade of.... a clown show.

I think Russian already learn their lesson with China. After the failed Su-33 deal, the 38 IL-76 transport plane thing. They know they can't play that trick with China.

plus Ukraine is a good friend, they have supplied China with gas turbines for destroyers before and also Zubr landing craft not to forget Varyag

in 1996-1999 China got 4 x DT-59 Gas Turbine for Luhu and Luhai
and 2005-2009 got 8 x DT-59 (DA-80) Gas Turbine for 4 x Luyang

in addition China imported 58 x AI-25 for K-8 between 1997-2004
and another 42 between 2005-2009

so thats 100 x AI-25 turbofans

Ukarine has also sold Pakistan alot of engines

320 x 5TDF Diesel engines for Al Zarrar tanks
315 x 6TD Diesel engines for Al Khalid MBT
and also 4 Midas IL-78 tankers and 320 x T-80U Tanks

Ukarine sells and does honest dealings and honours all contracts they are good suppliers

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

for L-15, it seems like Chile is very interested in it. A while ago, I read about South American countries purchasing L-15. I thought at that time Venezuela is the most likely place. Looks like Chile might be too.

basically head of Chilean AF came to Hongdu to see L-15 on Sep 27th.

I'm sure China will sell a lot of these trainers, especially in South America. Interestingly though, I heard Argentina are going to start producing their Pampa trainers once again. Perhaps this will result in more competition in South America.

Interview with Zhang Hong(designer of L-15). Basically it says JL-15 trainer nose is enlarged to allow PAR to be install which is rare among trainer(another step making this trainer into fighter/trainer/multi-role aircraft which I predicted).

The electronic and avionic package is being integrated into one and ensuring reliability of the system.
