The JL-17/FC-1 if it is being considered by Venezuela, but it also takes an advanced trainer to complement the K-8 and this is L-15.

Those are some nice (potential) colors there! I wonder though, with all this 'competition' between the lightweight but thoroughly modern L-15 compared to the larger, versatile, single engine FC-1 if one would be cheaper to operate than the other?

I think the only disadvantage of FC-1 compared to L-15 is lacking of twin seater version for training...

If not, I do't see how L-15 can be advantage than FC-1 in terms of all operational requirement.

Well the L-15 (or whatever the heck they would call a single seat, militarized version) has going for it, a more sophisticated FBW, a very high LEX and AoA and has two engines, while the FC-1 has is a much larger, versatile aircraft with a higher payload and longer legs than the diminutive L-15. Both roughly cost around $14 million, I guess its really up to Venezuela to decide what F-5E replacement they should get (which needs to happen as soon as possible, F-5Es everywhere are dropping out of the sky and killing pilots, the aircraft is just too old now and is more of a liability than an asset) but for some reason the L-15 comes up more often the the FC-1 recently so perhaps they see something special inthe aircraft that we don't.

Greetings from Uruguay in my first post. We note that in these days was a delegation of the Chinese government (?) Visiting Our main air base offering K-8 and Our Air Force shortly that if you have a spare Its fleet of combat aircraft. This would be used as devices and interception of illegal flights. I guess that the version of K-8 come to (if that happens) A radar would be provided because that's what this Finding Our Air Force.
Once Again best regards

very interesting news, looks like China is really pitching its products to South America now. First, Venezuela and Bolivia with K-8s and then Peru with the tanks and now Uruguay with K-8s. It certainly makes sense.

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

This business could be fulfilled as long as the K-8 is provided for coupling a radar which is a specification that calls for the Air Force my country for the new interceptor to incorporate.
As dire that it would be interesting comment that it had a light housework vercion K-8 with a little more electronica loading droppable and improved as radar or FLIR to offer to countries like ours without a vector nesecidades great features like the Jetsons home but with the technology in electronics and weapons appropriate to the times, if this comes the final product encareseria the basic price of K-8 is very accessible in itself. so I do not think that with these improvements the price pass the 10 million dollar remains pressures created a very acseso when compared with L159 for example, and they compete in the same segment

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

Gentlemen,

This is my first posting on this blog. I have spend many hour read all of your very informative posts, and I have a few questions I would like to ask. Also please excuse my English, since it is not my first language.
My questions are as follows:

1) Will the new trainer (JL-9/FTC-2000) have a single seat fighter version in the works?
2) Do you think that this (fighter) version of the JL-9 will be a slightly lateral or upward improvement of the current version of the J-7?
3) With the enlarger nose cone could modern radar be fitter that can support the use of medium ranger AAM?
4) I have read that the cost of the JL-9 (single set) is around 12 million. If that is true why not just buy the JF-17 single seat and trainer version?

It seems as if this aircraft could be a good stopgap for countries that cannot afford a 4th generation fighter and need to get something in the air until they can acquire modern replacements.

Thank you,

basically talks about L-7 (or CJ-7) by Hongdu passed the technical review for it's cockpit. It says that they already did the blueprints in 2009 and finished wind tunnel testing in 2009. It's planned to finish assembly in August and have first flight in October. Talk about integrated display and improvements in dashboard and such.
